The Bottom Line You end up with a truly NATURAL look. You don't look bleached or dyed, you look like a Professional did your Hair!
Oh, there's trouble, trouble, trouble. Right here in RIVER CITY - for when I was trying to think up a title for my review on L'Oreal® Paris Superior Preference Colorant, I came up with this: "I was an old gray-haired lady before using Product Name, but NOW I'm an old blond-haired lady." But for some reason, I hated that. Try again, "I used to be gray and now I am blond." Hmmm. A little better but not at all true. (No! I'm not bald!) I have been coloring my hair since I was 35 and didn't have even one strand of gray hair. I don't know why I died - oops! - dyed, really, except that I wasn't happy with the mousy-brown hair that the Lord endowed me with. I started with the first product that came on the market for home users. For the life of me, I can't remember the name of it. (Which goes to show you about the 'old' part.) It's no longer on the market, so I won't struggle with that. For years I was a redhead. My late husband used to rave over it and call me HIS redhead. I liked it, and felt good when he said that, but sometimes my hair did look a little brassy. And brassy is not my style. Imagine my chagrin when I finally changed to a light brown, after maybe seven years as a carrot-top, to hear him exclaim, "Well, thank the good lord you FINALLY got rid of that awful red!" I was crushed. Who wouldn't be? But did it stop me from coloring my hair? Nope. It's always been fun for me. My father used to dread my visits as he never knew what I would come home as. I have to laugh thinking about that. He was very old-fashioned and I was the WILD daughter because of my penchant for changing my hair color and he didn't want to have to hide from his small town neighbors. (Haven't times changed though?) Now to get down to the case in hand. In all seriousness, I tried many brands of hair color treatments, but once I tried Loreal Preference I was hooked. I have never even contemplated using anything else because this works so beautifully on my hair. As the gray increased, down the years, my Preference® Hair Coloring never failed me. I have been everything from Dark brown to the lightest (sickening on me) blond. But no matter what I did, what shade I chose, my HAIR always looked great. I may have looked horrid as a dark brunette, but the hair always looked great. It's so easy to use. And so reasonably priced. Over the years I have had my hair colored in salons, paying up to $130. Can you believe that when I started with L'Oreal® Preference, it cost me about $3.00? Now it costs anywhere from 7 - $10. I look for it on sale and stock up on it. It's still a bargain at any price. L'Oreal® Preference® Hair Colorant has IMPROVED I didn't think that was possible. But it has. Here is its latest Title: L'Oreal® PARIS SUPERIOR PREFERENCE® - Continual Color and Conditioning System - Fade Resistant Conditioning Colorant. And I don't joke when I say that it is everything that it promises us that it is. CONTENTS OF THE BOX 1. L'Oreal® Color Optimizing Crème with applicator Tip 2. Color Gel (it smells like peroxide) - You pour this into the Optimizing Crème - shake - clip the applicator tip and apply. 3. A tube of Weekly Care Supreme Continual Conditioner with UV Filter 4. A pair of PROFESSIONAL Premium Colorist Gloves - these new ones are Wonderful. You can even use them afterwards around the house, if you want. The idea of the gloves is to keep you from dying your hands or staining your nails. (or allergies) APPLYING FIRST TIME 1. I usually do this at the bathroom sink, using the mirror as my guide. It's a good idea to protect the area around you with bath towels or newspapers to avoid spotting. After mixing as above, squeeze mixture from the applicator bottle to gray areas first (if you're unlucky enough to have them) and then saturate all your hair like you were putting on shampoo. Use the full bottle. If I were doing a full job, I'd comb through it to evenly distribute it, then pile it up onto the top of your head. 2. Wait 25 minutes if no gray, an extra 15-20 minutes if gray. 3. With your gloves on, rinse your hair until water looks free of color. 4. Then saturate your hair with the Care Supreme Continual Conditioner. Wait for about 2 minutes, rinse and voila! You are finished. You used to get enough for only One Application with a snap-top lid. Now there's much more and the tube has a screw-top lid. 5. Dry and style as always. 6. Use your tube of the wonderful conditioner once a week after shampooing. They say (and I verify the truth of it) it will "protect your color, replenish moisture and optimize shine until the next coloring." TOUCHUPS 1 Do exactly as above, except part your hair into about 1/4" parts and apply to the roots. Everything else is the same as above. The last 15 minutes you can apply the mixture to the ends of your hair if you wish. 2 Let me tell you, there is NEVER any streaking. In fact, I never do a FULL COLOR Treatment, always Touch-ups, unless I'd change the color drastically. MY OBSERVATIONS 1 I don't use the tip applicator bottle anymore. In a salon, they usually put the mixture in a small glass container and apply it with a brush (not unlike a !" or 2" paint brush). This is how I've been applying it for the past year and it works for me. 2 Also, I put on one of my husband's old T-shirts when doing this. Your clothes can get spotted or stained, so prevention is a wise thing. 3 Choose the shade that's best suited for you. There are so many to choose from. The web site and the boxes tell you what shade to expect going from a color to a color. Too many older persons, I believe, think that going darker will age them less, when the opposite is true. (I read that somewhere & I agree from observing myself and others.) 4 It used to be that after 4 weeks, my hair would lose its body, the color would fade, and by the six-weeks I'd allow between colorings, I'd be DESPERATE to redo my hair. But no more! It's true that the color stays bright and your hair looks shiny and full since they have greatly improved L'Oreal® PARIS SUPERIOR PREFERENCE® . Unfortunately, they haven't come up with a way to prevent the gray/or/black roots from showing. WARNINGS 1. L'Oreal® does have warnings about strand tests for color and allergy tests, also. Read their warnings and decide for yourself how to handle it. I've never had ANY problems with either. 2. There's a list of Important Information about Hair Color on the instruction sheet, concerning children, eyes, etc. Be sure to read them as they are important. CONCLUSION I visited the Web Site at www.Lorealparis.usa.Com. It's very interesting. Also, I see that Cosmair.Inc. is the parent company, and it also lists Redken, Lancome, Maybelline, Helena Rubenstein, and Ralph Loren and Armani Fragrances as their subsidiaries. So you're in good company with L'oreal® Paris Superior Preference®. Incidentally, I use #9 - Natural Blonde. (Unless I change my mind next time.) Have fun! This is a Wonderful Product and I am happy to recommend it. Thanks, for staying with me, and thanks, Epinions for opening up a spot for reviewing this product. Lorace |
