| sonalb's Full Review: IBM NetVista X40i |
Tired of your desktop taking up much of the space on your desk? I know I was. I had the big clunky monitor, the tower and keyboard all on my desk and not much room for anything else. Plus there were so many wires connecting everything from the mouse to the keyboard to the monitor to the printer, I always managed to pull out the wrong one. Now with my new NetVista X40, all those issues are resolved!
This is one awesome machine! And its going to give Dell, Apple and Compaq a run for thier money! Talk about innovative design. Its an all-in-one unit. That means that there is no separate monitor and tower. The computer itself is just one piece including the 15" flat screen monitor. The drives are right under the monitor screen. When you push a button, they simply pop down underneath the screen. If you don't want the monitor resting on your desk you can purchase and optional radial arm to suspend the monitor/hard drive unit. And if you want to reduce the number of wires (3 in this case) to one... you can purchase the wireless keyboard and wireless mouse!
Plus the system is so easy to setup and use. All the wires are color coordinated so there's no way even a non-techie like me could screw up. For those who like to accessorize with gadgets, it has five USB ports and two low profile PCI slots.
The prices have dropped on these as well over the last few months. The basic models with Celeron/ 633mhz, 64RAM, 30GB, CD-Rom, Ethernet/56Kmodem, Windows Millenium and Lotus Smarte Suite start at $1399. Also, if this is still a little pricey for you they have nice thin client versions as well that take up less space than your normal tower.

The only bad thing I can say about this machine is that since it is IBM, it only comes with Lotus applications. I had to add my own Microsoft applications.
Also, be careful to notice the difference between the X40 (is equipped with ethernet only for LAN connections) and x40i models. The only difference is that the X40 is a business version and the X40i is for individual users.
A wide range of features and options are available:
*Intel Celeron or Pentium processors (up to 1Ghz)
*Integrated speakers or separate external speakers
*Choice of DVD, CD-RW, or CD-ROM
*Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (2) operating systems;
*Fast modem or integrated Ethernet network connections *Customizable keyboard
*IBM ScrollPoint III mouse
I love this PC and I can't beleive I put up with my space-hogging PC for so long!
