I bought the 500B model, which is slightly more powerful than the 1500B, but takes only batteries.

First, I bought the Sharper Image personal air purifier and returned it when I found this device. The difference is that the Sharper Image purifier is only an "ionizer", while the Air Supply uses something called "Corona Discharge".

The main difference here is that an ionizer removes dust/contaminants by having the ions interact with the small particles so that it becomes too heavy to remain in the air (they either fall to the ground, or stick to the charged metal plates inside the device).

The corona discharge mechanism (from what I've read on several sites) also ionizes the air as part of the whole process, but since the air also passes through several thousand volts of electricity (the corona discharge), it also kills bacteria and germs (ionizing the air also kills micro-organisms, but I assume that the corona discharge makes the whole thing even better). The ionized air then passes through some metal grate that neutralizes it. So what comes out is basically regular air instead of that "salty" or rain-like odor that you get with the sharper image purifier.

I've tried this device and suffice to say that it really works. I'm allergic to cats and when using this device, I hardly ever sneeze. I'd like it if the air flow was stronger, but it seems that all the personal air purifiers blow air at this rate.

Overall, this is an excellent device to have if you're allergic to something in the air or just plain paranoid about catching viruses from other people.
