I struggled mightily to find the perfect portable mouse for years before I came upon this one in 2001.
When you travel, there's simply no easy way to avoid the tons fo cords that can easily get tangled in your computer bag when you're rushing from meeting to meeting. So in an effort to reduce cords, the discovery of this mouse was a god send.
The retractable cord is an excellent way to reduce cables floating around in your computer bag. It's very light, and tracking is excellent. And between 2001 and 2004 (when I started buying bluetooth mice), this was the only mouse I used.
[EDIT: In terms of comfort and button functionality, the PocketMouse Pro is good. The mouse is very light, and the size is perfect for a medium sized hand. Neither too small nor too large. Button functionality is fairly standard with a left and right button plus a scroll wheel. The scroll wheel itself is also a button. One thing I never really check is software. If there's a CD, I typically check to see if it works on Macs by default, and if it does, I don't bother with the CD. This mouse didn't come with one.]
There are disadvantages to this mouse, most of which have already been mentioned: The cord is flimsy and doesn't last too long if you retract several times a day. I went through three of these in 4 years. And actually have a fourth that I keep as a back-up. Even after my first forays into the BT mouse world, I still kept going back to this mouse for travel simply because it was so light.
If you don't have a bluetooth capable laptop, and you don't want to buy a non-bt wireless mouse (which takes up a USB port anyway), I'd highly recommend this mouse.
