The South Pacific: God Help Me, I Do Love It So.
by LordBalfor | Jul 25 '01
The South Pacific is often equated with paradise, as well it should be, for it features some of the most wonderful islands on earth.

...funny & very clever! It was the tropical music that got to me too(when I visited Hawaii). Boy, that was when I started to understand the term "Hang Loose." Thanks for a wonderful review!

I changed my rating from VH to MH after I checked out your pictures.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words but your pictures are priceless when it comes to showing the beauty of the South Pacific.
I don't know if I will ever get the chance to visit such a beautiful place.
My oldest son is stationed at Misawa Air Base in Japan and we have talked about meeting him halfway for a visit in Hawaii, so maybe........

When I went to Hawaii back in 1992, my allergies disappeared, my skin glowed, and I felt healthy and relaxed...quite the opposite now. Wish I could stay there... Let's run off together! LOL

Hey, I've recently read about a new 12-step program for recovering Polynesia addicts. Thanks for the great opinion. I was laughing me @rse (why does epinions object to that word? I tried to just type it in, but they said it was unacceptable! It's a swear in Scotland, I s'pose, but I think it's a benign and actually pretty cute swear! Jeeepers!) off at the part about the old lady with the walker.

I am glad to have come back to reading your reviews. I find the writing inspiring, and colorful, and it manages to take me away, from the humdrum for just a few minutes. Thanks Ken for the fun!

Tongareva,

Yes, I'm well aware of your trip there, and have read and re-read your reviews of Raro & Aitutaki many times (they are terrific). Actually, we are in the process of booking right now, and hope to finalize our reservations today. We are planning on spending 6 nights on Rarotonga in a rented house, 1 week on Aitutaki, and then 6 more nights back on Raro in a different rented house. Needless to say, I'm very excited (especially about the Aitutaki part of the stay).

... about places I visited also. I enjoyed reading your opinion and it reminded me of the good time we had down there as well!

I you go to Cook Islands next year do not miss Aitutaki. I found it even better there than in French Polynesia.

Tongareva :)

I, too, have succumbed to begging all of my friends to go to F.P. so that we can live vicariously. Although we talk constantly about going back, we haven't yet. Though all I need to do right now is think about our delightful overwater bungalow (#42) and all is right with the world...

all it takes is a little will power and one-day-at-a-time to cure your wanderlust in the South Pacific.

This was thoroughly enjoyable.

Oh I do take full credit (and/or blame), but your many humorous reviews DID serve as my inspiration.

...in a great narrative style. We really need these kind of reviews in every category, to give balance to dry recitations of facts (even though many dry recitations of facts are very, very useful and valuable). And if anything I wrote offered any inspiration at all, then great--but be sure and take the full credit for an engaging review. And keep those duck shoes handy.

Sycan,

Actually, I DO believe you. I've heard that same comment from too many people to dismiss it. Still, I never saw it before, so I've nothing to compare it to. As a result it seemed pretty nice to me - though it's no Bora Bora.

Thanks for the comment,

Lord Balfor's obvious delight in the Society Islands is truly accurate and without exaggeration. Once you have experienced the visual and tactile seduction of the islands, they become the ONLY islands you want to frequent....We have have gone 5 times in the last 5 years, last year for 2 weeks, still not long enough. You will dismiss all other distinations hence forward. As always, great opinions from the memories of Lord Balfor ! Anxious to read your review of the Cook Islands, too !!!(PS.They ruined Mislamoya and Las Inguanitas, I spent many winter's there and Yelapa in the 70's, trust me.)

Thanks for the kind remarks. I'm happy that some folks out there get the inside jokes. To truly understand this Epinion, you really have to have experienced the illness for yourself. I wrote this all in jest, but there is an element of truth to it all.

I probably won't leave Seattle until I retire (hopefully in 15 years - we'll see) and would love to retire to Kauai.

...reading your review! I especially love PAREO! :-) :-)

I have been to Moorea and I couldn't agree with you more. I would LOVE to go back and explore the Cook islands. Please write a review when you return!

So, when are you moving from Seattle?

We've often thought of buying a place on Kauai, but we're not sure if we'd go "rock happy" after a few weeks....
