The only Ritz I can recommend is the cracker.
Written: Apr 21 '01
Pros:I can say I've stayed at the Ritz Carlton.
Cons:Old, dirty furniture, stains on bedspread, not elegant - just stuffy
The Bottom Line: If you're really uptight and snooty and only care about name-value, by all means stay here. Otherwise, go to the Marriot.
I chose the Ritz-Carlton because of its reputation. I had always heard that it was the epitome of elegance and grandeur and was THE place to stay. Boy was I disappointed. I wanted to have a romantic night with my boyfriend, so I booked us a room at the Ritz in Boston. It had a beautiful view, which was good because it distracted from the faded carpeting, worn couches, and the stained (yes, I said stained) bedspread. The Ritz-Carlton pretty much ruined any plans I had for a romantic night. All I could think about all night long was how much money I had plunked down for a dirty room in a stuffy hotel.
I would have complained to someone, but I really didn't think the woman at the front desk would care. She didn't seem to want to bother herself with two young people (my boyfriend and I are in our mid 20's, but we look like teenagers) who obviously couldn't afford such luxuries.
I really don't see what the big deal is with the Ritz. If you are pretentious and egotistical and want everyone to know you are made of money - maybe you should stay here. Really, though, I think it just makes you look unintelligent and a bad decision maker. Why would anyone waste so much money on such poor quality?
