Although your review is Very Helpful, you have slightly inaccurate information.
Tripod is not owned by Yahoo, Geocities is.

Homestead has its problems, but is better than the others you mentioned. (Reply to this comment)

I think you should give Homestead a little more attention. It has no floating banners of any kind, and it has an interface allowing you to make simple web designs. It seems to truly be a 'free' web hosting site.

After years of trying I finally have not one but 7 web pages through aol. It is simple to use but I've had several problems like not being able to edit,etc. Anyway you did a terrific job on this. jo
