I guess it does depend on where you shop. I have paid as much as 20.00 for a kit. Thanks for the support.

One "little" thing . . . (Reply to this comment)
by khahn86351
We just purchased a new refrigerator this past spring. We needed a "kit" to install the water line to the ice maker and the water in the door.
I think our kit was only $8. I priced them at several furniture and hardware stores and none of them were more than $15. I've never heard of any kits being as expensive as you mentioned, but maybe I am wrong.
Other than that, great review! Your review was very helpful and informative.

Great essay! (Reply to this comment)

A couple of things:
If you install an icemaker, then you have to inspect the lines regularly. A broken or loose water line may not be readily apparent - until it floods the kitchen. (Personally, I've heard too may stories to ever want one in my house.)
Extended warranties just make money for the service companies. The only "big" things in a refrigerator are the freon, the motor, and the compressor. These can easily last 30-50 years! What usually goes out is the defrost timer (new one: $45) or the defrost switch ($20). If you pay $200 for an extended warranty... I just replaced both in my refrigerator, and it was ridiculously easy- they just pop in!

Great Review. . . (Reply to this comment)

with lots of things to think about! We are building a new home this summer and for the first time will be buying a refrigerator that hasn't been "previously" owned. (Our house came with the refrigerator.)
This gave me lots of things to think about!
Thank you!
