Pros: Quite, efficient, $150 rebate from local electric utility
Cons: Tall with pedestal. Deeper than the previous washer. Takes a lot of real estate.
The Bottom Line: This model is recommended by my favorite consumer magazine - because of the excellent price, I couldn't afford to pass it up. It is the real deal.

| lawndartgoalie's Full Review: Whirlpool GHW9150 Front Load Washer |
Our old Whirlpool top loader provided reliable almost trouble free services for 19 years. It did have a habit of burning through a belts (2) smoking up the whole house in the process.
Upon replacing the second belt, the repair technician said that when (not if) the transmission finally went, it was time for a new washer. That happened this weekend.
Between the price war with Best Buy and Lowes on this model, we got a really good deal on both the washer and dyer from Lowes.
INSTALLATION
I installed both units myself. - If you are installing yourself, do yourself a favor and purchase a bubble level at the same time. Installing the pedestals was pretty easy (currently a rebate, buy one and get the second one free). You will need a hex head nut driver with hex bits. Each pedestal requires four screws (included). NOTE: Leave the drawer out until you get the unit level.
Four large bolts with big red spaces need to be removed from the back of the washer when it is within 18 inches of its final resting space. I guess they don't want you hauling it around and jiggling the tub too much. I kept the spacers in case I need to move. I'm taking it with me!!!!
The power cord is tucked up inside the back of the unit. Don't forget to pull it out prior to pushing it into its final location.
Hoses are included, but I bought the metal braided hoses anyway.
Setup of both the washer and dryer was about an hour.
OPERATION
It comes with a DVD that is really easy to understand. Using the machine is very intuitive for anyone who has done laundry before. The whole family was in on the learning curve, which was pretty simple. Plenty of automatic settings to do just about everything you would want. And a few manual settings to fill in the blanks.
The tub is cavernous with plenty of room for big loads.
The soap dispenser is easy to use for both liquid and powder detergent, bleach and fabric softener. I don't have the HE detergent, but am using half the recommended amount of the old detergent. No over-sudsing problems and the clothes are coming out very nice. (most people use too much detergent anyway)
WASHING
This machine is very quiet. The laundry is just off the family room, and before it sounded like a factory behind the doors to the laundry room. The difference is amazing.
The machine itself is so quite, it is drowned by the gentle sound of the clothing dropping into the water over and over again as the tub spins slowly first this way and then that.
After the spin cycle the clothes are very dry, and drying takes 1/2 the time.
The front load washer is an old concept popular in commercial applications but made new again for home users.
I was definitely a good investment. I hope it lasts as long as its predecessor.
