I bought this at an Egghead Auction for 20 dollars including shipping and it got to Hawaii in just over a day (using standard shipping so that surprised me). So I was excited to install it. Playing MP3's sounded better... More realistic and more bass.
After using my computer for just over an hour it froze. CTRL+ALT+DEL didn't work. So I turned of my computer. Restarted and again the same thing happened. I disabled the Montego and enabled my onboard sound and everything was fine. Maybe an incompatibilty with my chipset? The chipet is the Intel Pentium HX chipset. I emailed tech support and I haven't gotten a reply.
I will definately keep this for my next computer -if- it'll work. Here's why...
-Great sound, very realistic
-Reduces the load off of your cpu so sound doesn't skip while doing cpu intensive tasks (if you have onboard sound it depends on your cpu for it's resources)
-Easy Installation
-A3D 2.0 (Makes the sound more realistic and the A3D is upgradable to future versions)
I recommend this sound card even though it is incompatible with my chipset because it's still a very good performer. It won't disappoint you assuming you have a good set of speakers with a subwoofer (a subwoofer is something that reproduces the lower end of the sound spectrum for very deep bass). I use Altec ACS33's which produce very good sound with my old onboard sound and while using the Montego it sounded even better!
