I have a JVC camcorder
Model: GR-SXM250U
Purchased from Walmart.com Dec. 2003
My camcorder worked fine until I turned it on the other day and received a LENS CAP ERROR and BLACK SCREEN.
It has not been damaged. I recharged the battery and removed and replaced the battery and even connected it to external power over night.
The problem continues to exist.
I stumbled upon the following website while researching my camcorder's problem.
www.greenspun.com
This seems to be a common problem among JVC camcorders. These folks have used their camcorders very little as so have I. I have only taped less than one and a half hours of tape. Most of the other JVC camcorder owners have just given up and bought new camcorders. Because they feel the cost of repairing is not worth their trouble or money. They were told by JVC since their camcorder's were out of warranty they would have to pay for repairs. It appears to be a JVC manufacturer defect and JVC should initiate a RECALL. The consumer should not have to pay for the repair since it is of no fault of the consumer.
Response I received from a JVC CUSTOMER CARE person in Houston:
You may contact our corporate office/Customer Care Center as they have more control over your request than I do.

Response received from JVC.com:
If you would like to forward the unit to a JVC Factory Service Center, please send the unit UPS ground with a copy of your sales receipt and include a letter with your name, address, phone number and a explanation of the problem. If the unit is no longer under warranty, there would be a fee of $50 plus shipping for an evaluation.
If you require further assistance please contact the JVC Customer Care Center directly at 1-800-252-5722 between 9AM-10PM Eastern time Monday-Friday.
Bottom Line:
JVC should issue a RECALL to resolve this common problem. The consumer should not have to pay for repairs of "defective" JVC equipment.
I will not purchase another JVC product. I wish I had known about this problem before purchasing my JVC camcorder.
