The Bottom Line You really gotta be sure of what you want or need when you purchase equipment. Please read this review, and then you will understand how to successfully purchase equipment.

Hello, I'm Alex. I'm around 5'5", I weigh 115lbs, I'm less than 11% body fat, and I have an incredibly fast metabolism. A lot of my friends said that I was really lucky. I never considered myself lucky until I began to do weight training. I had a very rapid increase in muscle mass. I went to the NU gym once a week, and did about 30 minutes of push-ups, sit-ups, and bicep curls a day. Anyway, that wasn't enough. I decided that I needed a home gym. However, at this time I'm investing into the real-estate market, so I didn't want to spend thousands of dollars on a home gym. So, I decided to look at two top brands. Cybex and Nautilus. However, both were way out of my price range... But anyway, here's how you should properly buy equipment:

-Price-
*Different types of equipment cost different amounts of money. But just like any other type of market, there are good brands. My favorite brand that makes different types of equipment is Cybex. They have some of the best quality equipment on the market. However, you pay a huge price tag for that quality. I also looked at Nautilus. Very fine pieces of equipment, but still very expensive. But, then I came across Nordic Track. A chest/shoulder press machine was $599. I work mainly my upper body, so this machine I thought would be good for me... But, thankfully I shopped around. Many upper body machines are very expensive, such as chest/shoulder press and bicep curl machines. However, it really depends on the brand... Some are bad quality, and some are simply superior. Then I came across something that was clearly superior to everything else that I've seen on the market... Along with an excellent price tag.

-A Machine That Seems Like A Dream... But It's Real-
*I was already considering the Nordic Track machine for $599+tax. But, my friend decided to invite me to his new home gym. He said that he was able to do over 60 different exercises. I thought that he spent a fortune on it. So, he took me into his basement, and there was this funny looking machine. It said 'Bowflex' on it. I saw it on TV, and like most other products that I saw such as the ab roller, it was one of those "too good to be true things". I thought it wouldn't be at all of what it was said to be. Well anyway, he was using the $999 Bowflex Power Pro. I used that thing for 3 hours straight, and I was amazed. I nearly wet my pants!!! It's all it's said to be. The Bowflex was without any doubt the greatest piece of equipment that I've ever used. I've been using Cybex and Nautilus on a regular basis, and Bowflex is even better! It's over 60 exercises from just one machine. Well, I decided to drop the idea of buying the Nordic Track, and I have recently purchased a Bowflex Power Pro for $999+99 shipping. I won't ever regret buying one. If you want something that can do total body exercises without a huge price tag that you'd expect from such equipment, then buy the Bowflex Power Pro. I've seen people spend thousands of dollars on home gyms, but you don't have to... The Bowflex has exercises for all parts of the body!

-What Do You Want?-
*When we're speaking about body building, we're not talking about what you need. Obviously, you don't need to be buff, but you want to be buff. For example, I work mainly on the upper-body such as my chest, arms, and shoulders. I do few exercises that have to do with legs because I already skate for hockey and I run. I also don't work all too hard on abs. But I will once I actually get my Bowflex delivered. What you shoud do is take your clothes off, and stand in front of the mirror. Look and ask yourself what you have to work on. Then, go to a store, and check out the equipment that works with the muscle groups that you want. For men, the best groups are the arms (biceps and triceps), chest, and shoulders. Then, after working on those groups, move towards the abdominal muscles. Anyway, I think that ideal machines for most beginners is a chest press, shoulder press, bicep curl, and rowing machines. For abs, you can get away easily with a $50 - $100 ab roller. I used one for a little while, I discontinued. I will be using abdominal exercises on my Bowflex. However, if you want to play it safe, I suggest you buy a Bowflex. If you don't have the $999 for the Power Pro, you can always buy the cheaper Motivator model. However, if you're thinking of buying seperate machinery for different parts of the body. You should try out these three brands which I find to be the best:

*Cybex
*Nautilus
*Nordic Track

*If you stick to those brands, you should be safe. But remember, you have to be careful with what you buy. First see what muscle groups you want to work with, then buy a machine that works with them.

-Bells&Whistles-
*Do you really need them? Not really... This mainly applies to machines that work with the legs. Such as the treadmills, stair machines, and others similar to that. All you need is something that has solid build quality, and that will get you from point A to B. Some machines feature cool features, but do you really need them? I've seen treadmills go for as much as $6,500. Look, your muscles don't really if the machine is Cybex or if it is some strange brand. All you need to care about is if the machine will be able to last you and will have enough weights for yourself. All you need to look for is the build quality, and nothing else. You'll just be paying for all those extra features that you don't need.

-Lose Weight?-
*It's hard to burn fat off. Some people get the conception that it's easy. However, I think that you need to follow a special diet or something in order to actually lose weight. But I'm really not sure, because I have almost no fat at all. Just don't get the conception that you're fat one week, and then you're a buff person the next. If you have a low body fat percentage like me, then you'll gain muscle mass very rapidly. But for people with slow metabolisms, it may be much harder.

-In Conclusion-
*When you're looking for exercise equipment, you have to see what you need. First look at the muscle groups that you want to work with, and buy a machine that works with them. Be careful with what you buy though. Some brands make better equipment than others. My favorites are Bowflex, Cybex, and Nautilus. However, I've seen some very bad ones with machinery that feels... Awkward. However, sometimes you have to pay for the added quality, but it's all worth it. However, you should forget bells and whistles when buying treadmills or something similar. That'll just cost you a bundle. Muscles don't care what brand it is... You'll get from point A to B anyhow. However, in my personal opinion. It's nearly impossible to resist the Bowflex... If you want to really be safe with your purchase, get the Bowflex Power Pro. It has over 60 exercises all in one. It really works, and it is simply everything it is said to be. Good luck everyone!
