Meet the AC cable. This wonder of science will keep your system burning for hours of electronic enjoyment. It can also bring hours of grief when you find that you’ve lost it! This would have to be one of those most neglected components to any video game system. Let’s start with a little story.

A few months ago, I drove a friend up to Bowling Green University to drop him off for classes. The plan was to drive up on Sunday, and return to Cincinnati on Monday. For entertainment, I boxed up my Sony PlayStation 2 console and games, and took them with me! What better way to pass the time?

After driving about 175 miles, we finally arrived. Later that night, we unpacked the Sony PlayStation 2 and found that there was NO AC cable! Right before my eyes, my console had turned from a $300 Electronic High, to a paperweight!

The moral of this story is simple. Make sure you get yourself a spare AC cable! I lucked out because the local Market actually had an AC cable in stock! However, I would never take chances!

Let’s get back to the AC cable. Various companies make AC cables for console systems. They are all about the same. It’s just a cable, nothing special. Two wires bound together, with plugs on each end. They usually run around $5, so buying an extra is no big deal!
