I just called (1-877-667-4420), because i was in the need of another "Huggy Pup". You can order one through them the puppy ends up costing only $7.15, which that is cheap considering the other toys we buy and how much Huggy means to my son!

Contact information for Baby's First Book Club (Reply to this comment)
by charjere
Call 1-877-667-4420 for customer service and to request a postage paid label if you do not want the book within 7 days. If you have not opened the box or attached envelope then you can write "refused - return to sender" on box and put back in mail. You can also call Scholastic who owns the club at 1-800-the-child and they can connect you. You can call before opening the package and ask for the name of the book inside to help make sending the package back easier. One reason you get that last overdue invoice and people have problems with bills is that these companies use bulk media mail through the USPS (very inexpensive) which can take up to 30 days for the package or invoice to reach you. So don't pay anything unless you are sure you received the package and kept it! You have to be your own advocate when dealing with any of these clubs. Good luck!

The product and customer service you receive while in the club is first quality. But I completely agree about ending your subscription.
I have twin boys, now 10 months. I joined when they were about 2 months old. Not knowing what the deal was, I had actually wanted both babies to be in the club. But thankfully they read my original request form wrong, or else I would have had twice the product, and cost.
The problem I had with the customer service department was after canceling the subscription in writing with the last payment, I was still sent the next month's issue. I kept it, and paid for it being too busy and nice to hassle. But I called the number on my invoice to speak with a human to make sure my request to cancel was heard. It was. Then I received a "past due" invoice about a month later for something we had never received. Please remember I am a first time mom with twins and don't ever have it together anyway. I looked all over our house to make sure before I placed another call, and explained the situation. Oddly, I was told to ignore the invoice without any questions asked.
In my opinion this an old trick to get people to pay for something they may or maynot have received. They did not have any desire to furnish any proof of delivery to confirm they had shipped, and I received the product. To me that showed the lack of every day business practices. It was obvious when I called to question the bogus past due notice that this was a common complaint. In my opinion they probably have a large percent of customers who pay the invoices without question.
I am willing to bet the majority of clientele are new mothers and fathers who are over whelmed with all of the changes that new babies bring to our lives.
Although, now I am finding myself at their mercy.
In one of the first shipments we received was a
"My little huggy pup" small plush stuffed animal.
My son Dylan adored this, it was a staple for sleeping, calming, comfort. We got a new real life puppy to keep our older dog company. Well to make a mom's long cute story short, my son wanted to share all his toys with the new pup. The new pup ate the stuffed animal. I was devastated.(I am still not sure if Dylan notices or not)
I have looked online for this stuffed animal to replace him, with no luck. Prepared to pay five times what it was worth, I finally broke down and called the book club hoping to buy just that stuffed animal. After searching for the phone number and trying to call when I had a free moment I finally reached a nice girl in customer service. I told her my sad story, and she shocked me by saying she would send one to us at no cost !!! That was three weeks ago, and still no "My Little Huggy Pup" plush stuffed animal!!! It was like being suckered twice !!
Sorry for the dramatics, but this has been in the back of my mind every day for over a month.
So now I am going to start my search again.

Good club till you want to get out of it. (Reply to this comment)

I have to admit that the club does have a lot of good books and items for your kids to enjoy. My son and I started the club when he was 3 months old, by the time he was 2 years old, we were overwhelmed by books. I decided that it was time to cancel my member ship. That is when the rudeness on the phones start. I talked to a Sadie and she was so rude that it caught me off guard. I had to hang up on her and call back. To my disappointment I got her again. I asked to talk to a supervisor and she wouldn't let me. I did finally get to talk to someone else, but by that time I was so frazzled, I just had to take the rest of the day off. So be ready for that disappointment when your time comes to quit the club.

Great Baby's 1st Book Club (Reply to this comment)
by sunnymom
This is a wonderful book club. I got my first shipment on 9/8/03. It does take a couple weeks for them to send your first shipment. You get 5 free things. i got a soft book called look at me its a baby with a pacifer on the front its a real round ring for the pacifer and on the edges it has a rattle inside the fabric a sqeaky toy and crinkly sounding paper, on the back is a soft mirror. also a look at me wrist rattle, safety test cylinder, mother and child reference book, and growing child (at 4 months). The 1st book you buy in the shipment was called The moon. which is very soft and so cute. My little boy just loves to play with it. The books are such a good size also i don't think i've ever saw soft books this big. the cost of that one is 9.98 plus shipping 1.99 and tax of .71. They also say the books Range from 10-20$. and if you don't want one of the books all you need to do is call and they send you a return label in the mail to send it back for free. I'm looking forward to getting my second book and i know i won't be sending any of these books back. This book club is highly recommend. Thanks for reading Brandie

Great book club (Reply to this comment)

This is a wonderful book club, after I received the 1st shipment, I know I'm going to stay with it for a long time, the customer service is great, if you receive a shipment you don't want, all you have to do is call them and ask them for a pre-paid mailing label, just send it back and you'll get your money back.
And other good thing is that if you pay with credit card, you get to take 10% off of each shipment, that's a nice little something.
My baby loves the toys/books, they are absolutely adorable.

I did not rate - (Reply to this comment)

and enjoyed what you wrote- but wanted to point out that it's not on topic - the category is about joining LOCAL book clubs - like going to a location in your hometown and reading with others, etc --- you may want to look to move this to another areas - books is not my area, but I think I remember seeing something about subscription clubs
