Pros: Almost always up, lots of tools in their panel, sprightly non-techie communication
Cons: No phone support at lower levels, not much help on non-open-source Web software

| Windowphobe's Full Review: Dreamhost |
I switched my blog to Dreamhost at the beginning of 2002. Migration was a snap, and the DNS updates were speedy.
In the three and a half years since then, site downtime has been minimal (maybe 72 hours). Adding a content-management system - in my case, Movable Type - complicated matters slightly, but only slightly: a seemingly-endless stream of Perl scripts makes for occasional slow response. (Readers, unless they're actually using the interactive features, seldom if ever notice.)
More important, I think, is the fact that MT is a commercial third-party CMS which they can't support, and if you have MT troubles, Dreamhost can't be much help in determining whether the problem is in MT or in their server setup.
Phone support for their lowest-price product is nonexistent, and limited at the next rung; I have never actually needed it, though, and in my experience they answer their email within 24 hours (although seldom within 12). If you know what you're doing, this is a good, reliable host; if you're a little fuzzy on the details, you might be better served elsewhere. I'm content enough to let them handle two of my other domains.
