Freedom of expression should be allowed as long as it is not derogatory of race, sex or social class.

I can protect my children all i want from violent &explicit music et cetera, but I can't make every other parent do the same. All it takes is for one kid to fill his head with repetetively violent verses and he comes into my kids school with a gun or whatever. I know a lot of people disagree with me on this, but you have to admit that you never heard of kids shooting kids in school back when everyone was watching Leave It to Beaver and listening to "The Twist".

"Artists have held up their end of the bargain"
heh.. yes, a few went kicking and screaming if you remember the hearings. I'm all for labeling. Rate it, slap a huge safety orange sticker on that baby if you like.

Parents hold the greatest responsibility.
...and so they should. Don't get me wrong, I know parenting is the hardest job to do well - but there needs to be a time when some (and I do repeat SOME) "parents" face the reality that parenting is not something to be taken lightly. Just because someone is physically capable to create a baby is not qualification enough to continue popping out children like a broken vending machine, "hoping" they'll turn out alright with minimal effort on their part. Allowing musicians, TV shows and neighborhood thugs to have the final say in the child's path in life. Parenting requires saying "no" to certain things being in the home, and providing a good model for the child to follow. If the child is given a good head on it's shoulders from the parents, outside influences would be much less threatening to them.

Bravo!

I agree if you are of legal age, and not under parental supervision and guidelines. See in my home regardless of what popular demand calls for, I am the ultimate ruler of what is allowed and not allowed. Like I tell my kids, get a job, pay the mortgage and we will talk about it. :) I have nothing against what an adult wants to listen to, but proper morals and simple common sense will make for a productive adult to make informed decisions. Around here right now at this point and time if they need my financially support and yes they do, and they need me to guide them correctly in life.. I make the rules. Censorship in my home is a must....in the world is a whole other ball of wax. I do believe that hurting, hitting, killing, beating, shooting, having simulated sex is not for kids.....what message does that send? It is like comparing Gustav Klimtz nudes to Hustler....which is art and which is porn?

Thanks, I respect your opinion only disagree slightly in format.

I'm so with you on this one. I mean, I heard that there was a rap song out there where there's the sound of a woman being raped in the background and the rapper's like talking to her and saying "Shut up" and stuff. And THIS IS MUSIC TO A TEENAGER'S EARS??? What is wrong with this picture?

Well, the simple laws of supply and demand dictate that if there is no demand, there will be no supply. As bad as this might sound, there's only one solution, destroy the demand however possible. That's right. Since teenagers seem to think destruction is so cool anyways maybe they can try dealing with some of it.

(No, I'm not killing anybody, I promise!)

Freedom of Expression should be allowed... (Reply to this comment)

...regardless of our personal tastes. The minute an individual's right to speak is limited, it sets a dangerous precedent. Not unlike 'political correctness', eventually everything an artist expresses would be controlled. We all have the ultimate right of censorship: we don't participate in or purchase art that offends us. Those who appreciate it should not be hindered. Criticized perhaps, but their freedom cannot be squelched either.
