I'm not going to go into my own personal experience with Harbor Freight, with the exception of why I would watch what you purchase as far as certain items would go.
For the most part, the prices are reasonable for just about everything. However, you must realize that while the good deals can be really good - especially for items that do a bang up job in the home shop - sometimes you're going to get what you pay for.
For example, the socket sets, wrenches and other single item tools. If you don't beat the hell out of them they will last. I have most of the impact tools they sell and they work fine. Some of them are lifetime guaranteed and for what I do with them they should last just that - a lifetime.
If you've ordered smaller items from them before, you probably know that everything comes in plastic oily bags or well sealed boxes. This is due to the fact that everything (almost) comes from overseas. This also means that you're going to wait a little while before getting your stuff. most of the time this would be 10-14 business days. (M-F)
One thing to remember is that what you see often looks better than what you get. I ordered an air compressor but failed to clearly think of just how big an 8-gallon tank is. I got the compressor and it was really little, big motor but really small tank. It worked out though, well not really -the whole thing was all rusty. Apparently they needed to bag it up a little better over in china before putting it on the boat. I sent it back; UPS picked it up immediately which was nice. Yes it does take quite a while to get the refund. I kept the rest of my order, like I said I enjoy their air tools!
So, I would order the tool sets and things like that. If you want something bigger like the air compressor I got -buyer beware.
