The Bottom Line: I love this book! This is another great Harry Potter book. I look forward to the next, and to the next, and ...

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is the second book in the Harry Potter series, written by J K Rowling.

If you read my opinion on "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" you know that I read that entire book on a plane ride from London to Seattle. This is the PERFECT type of reading to take your mind off flying. I don't fly to well -- I have high anxiety and do not look forward to air travel -- ever. But, with a great book, it really helps to pass time and transport your mind to another world.

He's Back.
Harry Potter returns to fill our minds with imagination and intrigue! I thoroughly enjoyed the process of "learning the vocabulary" in the first book, and Chamber carries on the tradition.

Empathy rules.
Just like in the first book, Rowling makes us empathize with Harry through the evil family that he lives with; these humans treat him horribly and we bond with young Harry this way. Chamber continues this, albeit it's overshadowed by other characteristics and plot developments.

Good vs. Evil.
The Potter books often pit good against evil. We get images in our minds eye of dark, brooding characters that mean Harry harm. This is evident every time Harry runs into the other players in a Quidditch match. Since this book takes off where SS left off, we get to learn more about the individuals Harry interacts with.

Harry's friends.
We have more time to learn about Harry's companions at school, Ron and Hermione. This is nice because understanding the major components of the first book took all of your imagination; with all the new stimulation I didn't think I was very close to any of the characters. I wanted to get to know them better. In the Chamber book, Rowling does a really good job of developing Harry's inner circle of friends (and enemies!)

Addictive.
The latest installment of the Harry Potter series is every bit as addicting as the first book, however, unlike the first book, I am able to "put this one down". Perhaps I am training myself to savor the moment! I think it's due to the fact the reader is familiar with so much more of the scenery (the school) and the characters, that you are able to take your time with Chamber of Secrets.
