Well, I happen to agree with the writer of this review. I used to travel to the mid-West on business and drove or hopped short commuter flights from Chicago to Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Columbus, Cincinnati, Cedar Rapids and Springfield.
I have to say that it was all very boring scenery. I couldn't wait to see some variety in the landscape.
Sorry. But, I understand we are all different in what we see as interesting or boring.

My thoughts exactly! Of course, I grew up surrounded by rich, flat farmland, so I find such landscape comforting and fascinating. I checked out this review because we're planning to take the train from Chicago to Nebraska--only to find our entire trip was written off as "boring" LOL

This writer doesn't seem to appreciate subtler differences in topography. I have driven and taken trains throughout the Midwest all my life, and what amazes me is just how varied and different the landscapes are. I especially like driving west from Chicago all the way to San Francisco. Every time you cross another major river, the land changes again--but subtly. Mountains bring on quicker changes, but there isn't a boring scene in the Midwest either, if you take the time really to look.

What a nice review. I felt like I was reading an article by a professional travel writer. It is obvious that you are a sensitive and considerate person to be able to think about other people and their lifestyles.

Although I would never dream of taking the train- (snobbishly addicted to fast transportation :)
you made it sound palatable, and that's a switch from other reviews I've read!
Outstanding use of imagery and you covered all points of the journey with the kind of detail I want in a travel review.
