| Diversion4U's Full Review: Unreal Tournament for Windows |
All right this opinion is going to be a little one sided as I have never played the original Unreal. Also I’m not going to go into blazing detail about every single aspect of the game. Most of my epinions are pretty lengthy, so I am trying my hand at a brief review.
Unreal is hand down one of the best games I have ever played. It is an immersive trip to a terrifyingly real environment. Set in the future, it is the ultimate in death dueling first person shooters. Unreal strives to set it’s own standard in a genre that is overpopulated with rip-offs and copycat artists, and it does it with a defiant blow to the head.
The game play itself is second nature. I hate action games with a leaning curve that suck the fun out from the start. Unreal lets you sit down and start blasting the enemy into little bits. Smooth controls and complete freedom of movement make the game wonderfully playable.
The graphics are second to none; beautiful back drops, sculpted characters, and blast effects that will make you wonder if you should duck for cover. In addition, the game supplies arenas that range from castles to frigates that add nice depth to the overall play of the game.
Being that this game is also ultra violent you will more than a few lessons in how many ways the body can be disassembled. Weapons range from a handgun to a weapon called the ripper that fires bouncy blades of death to a tactical nuclear missile, aptly named the redeemer. Unreal supplies more than enough ways to deal out death. There is nothing like coming home from work, starting the game up, and blowing people away with a sniper rifle. If I haven’t mentioned it yet Unreal is not for kids—it is extremely violent.
Unreal Tournament provides a bunch of ways to customize the game to your style. You can play death matches, make yourself and everyone else in the match invisible, limit weapon choice, practice in the arenas before you go in live, or just pick a single mission for a quick duel to the death. Almost every aspect of the game can be changed, so it opens it up to the user to make his or her own environment.
Overall, Unreal Tournament is just a great game. I think you would be wise to buy it or borrow it from a friend, so you can see for yourself. I hope this epinion has been helpful. If you have questions or comments please email me at diversion4u@excite.com
