Today I am driving 20 minutes both ways on my lunch hour to return my SECOND Sharper Image Deluxe SeeID Deep Pocket Wallet and my third Deep Pocket Wallet overall. Why so many, let me tell you.

After having my original SeeID Deep Pocket Wallet (see my review of that wallet here: http://www.epinions.com/content_192941690500), I thought this might be a good upgrade with a little more room. Boy was I wrong. It has all the features of the standard SeeID Deep Pocket Wallet but adds an additional flap with two credit card slots to give you some extra capacity. It also appears to make the wallet even more breakable than it’s simpler cousin.

I originally got this for my birthday in December 2004 to replace my previous wallet. I was willing to give The Sharper Image a second chance on their Deep Pocket wallet after my first experience. That was clearly a mistake. In March my new one broke the same way as my first one. This was despite my awareness that this could happen and my precautions to prevent it.

As I was concerned the new one would break I made the effort to make sure that any time I put it in my pocket the clip end was up so as not to be sat on as much. Despite this the wallet lasted less than four months.

Of course at this point the 90-day warranty, I think I know why it’s so short ;-), was over. Despite this I was unhappy and decided to take it back. They did take it back and gave me a replacement with some complaining. Then, like an idiot I bought the $11.95 “Replacement Guarantee” that runs three years. I knew that it wouldn’t last nearly this long but figured it was worth a shot.

Now I remember why I did. Last week the wallet broke again, the same way as the last two. Just over four months after it was replaced is was worthless. So clearly this wallet is designed to eat money not just hold it. I have to say that $40 for a wallet is an outrageous price to pay when it figures out to $10 a month.

Sorry Sharper Image, I have been burned too many times. I will NEVER purchase anything you sell again.
