Top 10 Movies: The view from here.Aug 02 '01 Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line All are available for the VCR or check your local TV guide. Grab the popcorn and a soda and enjoy these classics! Films come and go but a chosen few stay in your mind and your heart forever. Trying to choose the 10 best may be a fool's game but this fool is going to try. 10. Dirty Dancing: A touching film of a young girl coming of age. Watching Patrick Swayze dance was magic. Nearly a cult favorite the day it was released. 9. Patton: I'm not convinced that George C. Scott wasn't really Patton. Received the best picture Oscar for 1970. A five star film even for those who aren't into war movies. 8. Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?: The ultimate disfunctional family. Liz and Dick just acted normally in this mind blowing saga of a couple getting ready to plunge over the edge. Oscars all around with 5 in total. The academy messed up by not giving one to Burton though. 7. Network: Made in 1976 when it was suppose to be a view of TV in the future. Hmm, is the future here now? Incredible performance by Peter Finch as the newsman who must get better ratings. How many of us went to the window and yelled I'm as mad as h*ll.....? 6. Jaws: Spielberg at his best. When he's not amusing us, he's scaring us half crazy. A timeless classic that will still be keeping people out of the water 100 years from now. 5. Silence of the Lambs: Best actor, actress, director and film. A disturbing production where we ended up loving the man we were suppose to hate. Not to be watched alone. 4. Gone with the Wind: 60+ years old and still going strong. The old south is coming to an end and what's a girl to do? Scarlett was way ahead of her time. 3. Shindler's List: Gut retching and terrifying. The movie going public knew that Spielberg was a genius but this proved it to the critics and the Academy. Bring lots of Kleenex. 2. Aliens: The second episode of this series has Ripley (Sigourney Weaver)returning with the Marines to fight these nasty creatures. You really care about the characters and the suspense will keep you on the edge of your seat. 1. The Godfather Part II: Incredible to have a sequel equal and then pass the original. Actually I would rather put the Godfather Saga here as it's too difficult to rate one higher than the other. Coppola made us all an offer we couldn't refuse as he took us into and made us a part of this interesting and treacherous family. Just missed the cut: Fantasia, Blazing Saddles, Psycho, The Best Years of Our Lives, All About Eve and Ghandi. |
