I went to the Explorer XLT from an 1989 Ford Probe GT turbo.
Talk about a change of height and power. I decided on the
Explorer XLT after talking to many friends that had Explorers and doing comparisons with other comparable SUV's
including Nisson and Toyota. Most of my friends had above
average luck with their Explorers. Many who had Toyota's
and Nissons liked them, but experienced what they thought
where poor service from the dealers and expensive maintenance. I also got a very good deal on my XLT. It
was fully loaded with packages I was not going to buy. I
think the negative press on the Firestone/Explorer situation
made them deal more than usual. That and the fact that I was also looking at the Expedition and the F150. They even
changed the tires from the Firestones that were on it to another brand and my request.
I am happy with the performance for a six. It well and rides no worse than most SUV's. I am really inpressed
with the turning radius. Even though I live in So. Cal
I have used the 4wheel in the snow in the local mountains
and it has functioned well. I am happy with the vehicle
and the standard features.
