I am a sucker for the old school games like Simons Quest [Castlevania] for the NES and GameBoy Doctor Mario; sadly trying to find accessories for the NES as well as older titles for the GameBoy are hard to find. If you go retail most of the time you are paying an arm and a leg for new items and the used ones are always a gamble. When I was looking for some things for my Sega Saturn I wasnt too pleased with what I saw at most sites. Once again I turned to Google to point me in the right direction and GameAsylum was one of the best results for my query. The site isnt all that fancy but they do offer you color photographs of what they sell along with a description. Its not that hard to navigate through the site nor is it loaded down with cheesy graphics that slow down page loads. Everything is listed on the sidebar and chances are no matter what you are looking for, they have it. The prices are very good, they offer free shipping on orders over $50.00 [some restrictions apply, read on for details] and their customer service is made up of people that actually play video games so if you have a question, they will be able to answer it.
Purchases
Call me cheap but I flat out refuse to pay $20.00 for a Sega Saturn game controller. That was the price that several online sites were quoting me when I emailed them to see if they had any in stock. When I did a Google search for them I came across Game Asylum and saw that they had the Naki after market one for $8.99. They also had the lowest price for the power cord for the Saturn - a mere $5.77. That was less than half the price I saw online as well as the local video game stores. Ive also picked up cheap PlayStation 1 and 2 games, NES cartridges and some GameBoy accessories. They have a tremendous stock but you have to check the site often to get the best deals. Just because they only have a couple of games listed for a certain system doesnt mean they wont gave 30 new ones the next day. They do have a pretty accurate site and most of the time when you order something and it says that it is in stock - is it. I have only gotten one email saying that something was out of stock but they assured me that they would have it within a week. Not even three days later they emailed me and said that it was back in stock.
Selection
Game Asylum offers almost every platform and system available as well as games and accessories for them. The classic include almost every Atari every released, NeoGeo, 3DO, Colecovision. Intellivision and my personal favorite Sega Game Gear. Since I still adore my Dreamcast I am sure to check the site to see what games they have listed as well as accessories and visual memory cards. They also carry the more popular stuff like PlayStation 1 and PS2, X Box, GameBoy and GBA, Nintendo [NES, 64 and DS] as well as computer games, television hook up games and tons of little odds and ends. In most cases they not only sell the games but they sell the systems and accessories for them. If you are a video game junkie then this is a site that you will want to bookmark and visit often to get the best deals.

Payment Options
The site accepts MasterCard, Visa, American Express, The Discover Card and JCB. If these are not options for you then you can also pay with a personal check, wire transfer, money order or a cashiers check. Moreover, they also accept Yahoo Direct Pay, PayPal and Western Union BidPay. Talk about options! I have used my MasterCard and Visa Debit Card for purchases and have never had any problems. If you are paying by check or money order just print out the form, send it in and wait for your order to arrive. If you have any questions about this process email them at service@gameasylum.com.
Shipping Fees
I am going to be completely honest here - I have no idea what their shipping fees are. Since they offer free shipping for orders shipped within the United States that are over $50.00 I make sure that I try to hit that mark as close as possible when I order. If I am under by a couple of dollars I will look in the miscellaneous section to see if there is something to make up the difference. To me this is the most cost effective way to go. Why waste money on shipping and handling when you can get a couple of products instead. The free shipping offer doesnt apply to game systems or poker related items so make sure you are ordering things that qualify for the free shipping offer.
The Bottom Line
So far I am impressed with how the site handles their customers and their inventory. I am not going to say that I am going to give up looking for bargains at the local used video game stores but if push comes to shove and I am completely frustrated with trying to find something, GameAsylum will get my business. The site doesnt have pop up advertising and it is something thats safe for kids to browse since there is no adult content. The worst that will happen is that they will start begging for games and accessories. With game units, accessories and games from almost every manufacturer from past to present GameAsylum is the place for old school video game junkies to get their fix!
As always, thanks for the read!
