Organic Bouquet has a nice selection of organic flowers plus some extras, like vases, teddy bears, and organic chocolate truffles for packaged delivery.
The prices are comparable to other, non-organic flower delivery services. I also liked the fact that certain bouquets are tied to select charities, such as NWF (National Wildlife Federation), with a portion of purchases made going to the charity at no additional cost to the customer. (Choose "Occasions" to find the "Charitable Bouquets" selection option.)
They also have monthly flower clubs, wreaths, and organic produce and other gifts to choose from, as well, if you are interested. The site is simply-designed and easy to navigate as well. Just be sure to look around to see all the options, as the categories are not always obviously named.
Ordering was a simple process. Choose the bouquet you'd like to order, then you can choose your delivery date (no Monday deliveries, though). Then you can choose to add on a vase or other extras, enter your billing and shipping info, and compose a gift message and, finish off with the standard credit card payment options - Visa, MC, AmEx, or Discover. As with most online stores, you can create an account and save your billing and shipping information for quicker repeat shopping. You can also enter your United Mileage number or coupon codes, if you have these. New customers: you can get 10% off your first order by entering coupon code NEW2005 before 12/31/05. :)
My order arrived accurately and when promised and the recipient was very pleased. I was offered a replacement bouquet (delivered wherever I chose) after reporting that some of the flowers were received a bit damaged. I chose to sample the receiving end of the service and had them delivered to myself in the office. I was very pleased with customer service and absolutely delighted with my bouquet.
My flowers arrived at about 9:30am on a Tuesday, boxed in a long "Organic Bouquet" box and each flower packaged carefully with the stems in long, plastic tubes and the heads in special plastic nets to protect the petals during transit. The entire bouquet was then wrapped in tissue-like paper, tied with a piece of wired raffia. The flowers did not include any water or moist materials for the thirsty voyage, and no vase unless you order one for extra bucks, so I made sure I had a vase on hand for the delivery. Personally, I don't like to see a lot of unnecessary packaging for stuff I order because it usually ends up in the landfill. However, in the case of fragile, living things like flowers, I have to make an exception because it appeared to be necessary to ensure proper care. It all worked - every single flower arrived in great condition. They also included a standard little packet of flower food to add to your own water.
I received 15 (not the usual dozen other services do) vibrantly colorful gerbera daisies and everyone at the office loved them. There was even a coupon included for 10% off a new customer's first order (code: NEW2005). Since I was no longer a new customer, I posted it on our work bulletin board for someone else to use.
The bouquet lasted for quite a long time - some went over a week. I took them home on Friday and enjoyed them at home for several more days before they wilted.
One downside to Organic Bouquet is that they won't deliver on Mondays, which is tough because flowers tend to be a timely gift. (Birthdays and anniversaries can fall on Mondays just as easily as any other day, right?) They always overnight their orders to make sure they are in top condition, and apparently they don't work Sundays, so Monday deliveries just aren't standard policy (at the moment). They do deliver on Saturdays, but for an additional $10 charge.
Another downside is the somewhat limited selection, which is understandable, given that these are organically grown flowers. Don't get me wrong - there's a nice variety available, especially if you're shopping for special rose varieties, but I am used to seeing a whole lot more selection of mixed bouquets, so you might find yourself wanting something they don't have. The flowers they do carry, though, are very nice and make a definite impression. I remember seeing sunflowers and calla lilies, for instance, and several varieties and colors of roses.
Because I am concerned for the environment and look for organic products, but still need to be frugal, I was very happy to find a reasonably priced organic flower delivery service. A bonus is that Organic Bouquet also happens to be a member of Ebates, which pays its members for starting their shopping experience through their virtual mall. Ebates pays 5% for Organic Bouquet purchases. If you're interested, go to my profile and click on my Ebates link and look around or join up.
