Now, In Desktop PC market, There is a big competition between AMD and Intel. Currently, AMD released Duron 950MHz and K7 Athlon 1400MHz. There are two parties in this market to support both sides. We have to select good and suitable PC for our purpose. I am going to more internal details about these AMD CPUs and like to explain the difference between Intel CPUs. Most of us are know about Instruction set. These are main difference between these CPU's. AMD supporter are always tell 3DNow(r) Intel side are come with MMX, SSE and so on. Most of us are not fully understand those things. In early Pentium(r) period, PCs are commonly used for Research and Scientific purposes. After CD arrival, Multimedia stuff becomes very famous. All are like to buy PC's for Multimedia stuff. So, CPU designer improved their CPU performance for multimedia application by improving Integer operations instruction set. Then after, In #D world, There are concentrates in floating point operations. So, These are leads to introduce those new technologies. These are bring these MMX(r), 3D NOW!(r), SSE ,.. things. AMD have its own technologies. Intel have different one. Here you can see the list. Supporting technologies Pentium Pentium MMX -- MMX Pentium II -- MMX Celeron -- MMX Pentium III -- MMX , Extended MMX , SSE Celeron II -- MMX , Extended MMX , SSE Pentium 4 -- MMX , Extended MMX , SSE , SSE2 AMD K6 -- MMX AMD K6-2, K6-3-- MMX , 3DNow! This is main problem for software vendors to support only AMD's architectures. Most of them are consider Intel only or both sides supporting instruction format. So, No one worries want to worry for these stuff. Other than, When We consider Performance/Price ratio, AMD is top in this PC world. Intel can not think about that. So, AMD buyers don't waste your time with thinking some intel side technical people's arguments. You can see the CPU benchmarks results to prove my arguments. You can use CPU bench program to compare your PC with market PC models also. I am using AMD K6-2 500MHz from 1999. I really feel that It works nearly equal to good Pentium III model PCs.  |
