I use Yahoo a lot so checked out the Yahoo! Hot Jobs website while job searching. I really liked the site and seem to spend a lot more time on this job board than any other. The font and colors seem to be consistent with Yahoos so if you like Yahoos website style you may like this too.
What it Is
Yahoo Hot Jobs is free to job seekers. The user can post their resume on the site for employers to view, search jobs all over the United States, respond to ads through the site, and browse a lot of career reading material.
Posting you Resume
The way my posted resume is displayed is far superior to any other site that I use. It looks like a professional resume lined up with bold, bullets, and proper formatting.
One of the benefits of posting your resume is because it will be searchable by employers. Adding key words for your job field is most important when using this strategy.
Another reason for adding your resume to the database is because you can apply directly to the ads from the Hot Jobs website. This allows you to track who youve applied to and when, saves a stamp, and gets the resume to them days faster than the mail.
The website is supposed to let you know how many people have looked at your resume. Dont be surprised if its a single digit especially since the count resets after so many hours.
Searching for a job
I remember using Hot Jobs way back when but I guess that they merged with Yahoo. It has a Yahoo look to it now which I think is an improvement. There is a wide variety of job fields and doesnt seem to focus on just one type of career. Entry level jobs are the most abundant.
You can browse by industry for general results such as hospitality or sales. You can enter key words, or search by employers. There are lots of ways to search and narrow the results. You can filter by your major city and it will break the major city into smaller areas which I find extremely helpful.
Seekers probably look on a regular basis so once youve looked at the database you can narrow the list by ads listed today, 7 days, up to 90 days. Its a lot easier to rummage through the ads when you keep up with them. You can set up email alerts if you prefer.
Another benefit that Ive found is the Job Results from the Web section. Yahoo pulls off job matches who may be what youre looking for but not advertised on Hot Jobs. Ive found numerous interesting opportunities by looking in that list. Since its not a Hot Job listing you will have to leave Hot Jobs website to apply.
How it compares to other job boards
One of the first things I wondered was if the same jobs were listed on here that were listed on other job boards. I searched a couple of the other job boards for the same job and didnt find it listed there. Ive actually found more positions that I was interested in applying to on this job board than other job boards.
This site is very easy on my eyes. Im able to spend hours on this site without getting a headache because of the font size, colors, and alignment. The page can be viewed as brief with only the job title, company and location which can be expanded if you want to see more information or it can be viewed in detail giving the first two sentences of the description.
I like how the search can further filter results by date updated or listed, location, job category, job type, job experience and/or company name. The filters are easily found on the left side of the search and are very effective. Some job sites dont filter correctly or dont offer as many filters as this site does.
Overall
Ive found more jobs that I was interested in on this site and more call backs than any of the other sites that I have used. It is a free resource which I would definitely recommend using.
