Pros: Characters, FMV, Storyline, Music, junction system everything...completely different to ff7
Cons: The Laguna scenes were a little boring
The Bottom Line: Buy it! Play it! Play it again! And again! Until it finally breaks! Buy a new one! Play it! Play it again!
It's the best game ever!

| khawkuk's Full Review: Final Fantasy VIII for PlayStation 1 |
Truly the best final fantasy by far and i know i'm not the only one who thinks so. The characters were easier to relate to and understand, they were extremely well developed and interesting which I found ff7 lacked. The characters, especially Squall, seem to be more real, the situations were more real. It felt like you were there with them in the middle of everything.
The junctioning system I hated when I first played the game because I didn't understand it, however it is brilliant once you get the hang of it. A much better system than that of ff7 and just as good as ff10's sphere grid.
The ending is great, especially since it shows the changes in the main character. The song that plays over it, actually has the words unlike the other points in the game where it is played which suits the story perfectly.
The first time through the game there is really not much to hate about it, but after you have played the first disc around 11 times parts of it are dreadfully boring. These bits are where nothing is really happening (ie, Laguna's scenes)
The card game Triple triad is addictive especially if you keep winning and it's a real challenge to collect all the rare cards.
The sidequests add more to the story and sometimes more to the characters. They are quite often full of humor aswell.
Final Fantasy 8 = one word. (BRILLIANT)
