I’m always looking for CDs that will help me relax and support meditation. I am a high stress individual and I find that the best of the New Age genre helps me relax, at home at the office.
I saw this CD on Ebay and listened to samples on the principal’s web site, www.heartof healing.net.
This CD consists of three separate mediatation, with soothing, peaceful spoken words by Mary Maddux and accompanying peaceful music, composed and performed by her husband, Richard Maddux.
The first meditation, Mini-Relaxation Break lasts about 8 minutes. The theme here is awareness of body, detachment from the outside, with a few minutes of music at the end.
The second is Unwinding and again focuses on detachment, rising above cares, but in a longer, more thorough manner. This meditation seems purposeful for use at the end of the day. This is my favorite, as it has helped me sleep when I am very unsettled. It lasts 15 minutes.
The third meditation is Total Body Relaxation and focuses on relaxing individual body parts. This is similar to other such meditations I’ve come across, but Mary’s soothing, peaceful voice makes this special as wll.
The final cut is Music for Relaxation, 30 minutes of composition by Mr. Maddux.
Throughout the three meditation cuts, Mary encourages meditation through her voice and her ideas. She employes an experiential approach, which includes identifying tension, use of breath, encouraging being present in the moment, acceptance and detachment. The music, consists primarily of synthesized strings, moving through and resolving to major keys.
I have found all helpful, with Unwinding having helped me sleep on several occasions when I was feeling EXTREMELY stressed. This CD was truly a Godsend.
