I am, or, as of today, was a Freeride.com addict. I loved this site but unfortunately today they shut up shop for the Summer. I'm not going to copy and paste the blurb they've posted on their homepage but, suffice to say, they are having a cash flow problem and have given members until Monday April 30th to cash in their points and move on.
Apparently the powers that be will be retooling the site and their master gameplan and hope to come back leaner and meaner in the Fall - hope being the operative word here. It's a real shame.
How Freeride Works/Worked (Sigh!)
Freeride.com is a rewards site where you can earn points for many different things and cash them in for electronic or paper gift certificates. Here's a few of my favorite point earners from Freeride:
(1) Search-o-rama - By doing internet searches through Freeride you could earn up to 30 points per day. There were a number of categories:
General
News, Sports, Fun
Business
Resources
You could do up to 4 searches in each category.
(2)Make Your Points - This section of Freeride had a number of surveys that you could take in order to earn points. Occasionally new surveys would pop up for extra chances to earn.
(3)Pointworks - In pointworks you earned points by signing up for various websites etc - not my favorite area, but you could earn a decent amount so long as you chose carefully.
(4) Shop-o-Rama - Nothing new here - earn points for shopping through Freeride.
(5)The Magic Bus - This was by far my favorite section of Freeride although it was time-consuming. By riding the magic bus you earned bus tokens by surfing sponsor websites and clicking on Hitchhiker Icons for 1,2 or 3 tokens and on Bonus Rider Icons for 20, 30 or 50 tokens. Each person could click on a maximum of 50 hitchhikers or bonus riders per day.
Each day the first five people with the highest amount of tokens received 10,000 Freeride points, the next 100 people got 1,000 points and the next 2,000 folks got 100 points. It was cool and unbelievably addictive - I loved it!
Point Redemption
Electronic or paper gift certificates were exchanged for Freeride points in typically these amounts:
1350 Points = $10 gift certificate
2950 Points = $25 Gift Certificate
I used to prefer paper gift certificates and usually went for Barnes and Noble, Marshalls, Blockbuster Video and that type of store. However there were a wide variety of store, restaurant and travel gift certificates available.
Freeride.com is closed for the Summer. I hope they make it back online in the Fall. It was a good site that was a lot of fun - and isn't that what it's all about?
