The Bottom Line Recommend a brassie? Can you even do that anymore?
Brassie: Term given to a club, typically a wooden shafted model, that is equivalent of a modern day #2 wood. From a time in golf's history when each club had it's own particular name, rather than a sequential number, and the balls were made of sap, and Scots could barely swing a club because they wore fifty pounds worth of clothing on the golf course. I guess I need to pump at least 100 words into this, so I'll tell you a 2-Wood story. I have a friend who stood on the tee box of a par 5 9th. He hit relatively routine drive, and then pulled out a Callaway 2-Wood for his second shot. After his second shot, he and the others in his group spent at least fifteen minutes trying to find the ball, and upon giving up, the rest of the men proceeded to hit onto the green. It was only then that they all realized that my friend's 2-Wood second shot had landed in the cup for a double eagle. |
