Cheap Screen Protector
by gsearle | Aug 06 '01
Don't shell out $25 for a PDA screen protector when a cheap (often free) sheet of vinyl will do.

Never thought about vinyl, seems like it would work ok. I too got tired of paying alot for screen protectors but lately I have been buying them for my visor at southsidesurplus.com for only $6 for a 12 pack. Now that you mention using vinyl I may give that a try. Thanks for the thoughts!

Vinyl sheeting does not contain any adhesive at all, and therefore does not leave any sticky residue. It relies on electrostatic attraction and holds very well, yet is easy to remove. It also lasts for months, and works out to about a tenth of a cent per month for my REX. (1/2 yd ~= 288 sheets [144 for a Palm]. $0.87 / 288 ~= $0.003. $0.003 / 3 months = $0.001 / month.) All you have to do is cut it.

I've been using scotch tape for a while on my Palm Vx, but just over the graffitti area. Now that I'm starting to see a lot of scratches on the rest of the screen, the vinyl sheets sound like something to try.

Thanks!
