The Bottom Line As a driver you should realize you are not more important than the other drivers on the road, and thus, drive accordingly.
Dig this: Excuse me if for a second I do my Dennis Miller impersonation and go on a rant here, but there is one specific group of drivers that positively infuriates me. This is, of course, those drivers who believe themselves to be superior or more important than the rest of us drivers on the highway. During this summer, I have been commuting from my family's suburban home to St. Louis five times a week, and doing such, I have of course experienced a multitude of construction operations on the highways. I'm sure everyone is familiar with this situation: you see a sign saying that the left lane is closed ahead, so you move into one of the right-hand lanes, where you slow down behind a long line of traffic. However, not everyone gets into one of the slow moving right-hand lanes. Some people drive as far up on the left as they can -- passing many people who are also in a hurry and late for work -- and pull in at the last second. Do these people think that they are somehow better than me? Do they think that they mysteriously have been awarded the right to avoid traffic stoppages? Is their business somehow more important than mine or the myriad of people also waiting in traffic? Clearly these people must think so. These chthonic individuals only serve to slow traffic down further by merging after everyone else already has. Consequently, I loathe them as drivers. I certainly do my best to make sure that none of them are able to merge directly in front of me and believe that everyone else should do the same. On a tangent, this is one of the reasons why I like truckers as drivers. They often will drive in the soon to be closed lane at the pace of the other lanes to stop people such as those previously described. Well, that is my rant for the day. Thank you for your attentiveness. Everyone have an excellent evening and a safe drive home. |
