For our recent engagement party, a friend had given us a Target gift card. I had previously seen a baker's rack at the store I had wanted, so I figured I would use the gift card for that. After buying this baker's rack that I loved so much I found that it was defective and it was the last one in the store. In fact, it was the last one left in any Target store anywhere. So I returned it but was furious at the store after hours of phone calls to various people to try to fix the situation, so I did not want to do any shopping.
I later found out that I could use the gift card for purchases on Target.com. A large supply of their items on-line come from Amazon so I felt better shopping the website than in the store.
Target.com has a huge variety of items. You can browse items by category: home, baby, kids, electronics, toys, entertainment, etc. When looking for a gift for someone, the gift finder is a helpful tool. In it you can search through gifts for her, for him, for baby, for kids, and for weddings. In each, you can search by price, age, occasion, etc.
Other ways to shop Target.com are by sale, clearance, by brand or by the designer. I found the clearance to have numerous items - some at very good prices. You can also browse through the current weekly ad for your area.
If you know someone with a Target baby registry, wedding registry, or wish list you can look that up and purchase items for them. You just enter their name in the registry and it will show you what they have registered for. The wish list is great for birthdays and for Christmas gifts, or for adding items for yourself to purchase later.
I created a wedding registry after finding out Target.com has such a large selection of items, especially in the home store. Creating the registry was very simple. I just filled out some important information and I was ready to add items. My mailing address is saved on the website, and anyone purchasing items for us can choose to have it delivered right to our door, and it never gives out the address.
Ordering from Target.com is easy. You create an account, if you do not have one already, or you can use your Amazon account information. You then can review your order, enter shipping information and billing information. You can use Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover or a Target card or Target gift card. In my case, my gift card exceeded the amount of my purchase so I did not even have to enter credit card information. You can also enter any coupon codes you may have. If you do not have any, try doing a quick search for one. There is almost always coupon codes you can find online.
After entering all the information, your order is complete. You get a confirmation number and you are able to check back on the status of your order. You can also track it with the tracking code on the UPS website.
There are different options for shipping. I used standard shipping, which says it takes 3 - 5 business days. I am only an amateur shopper on the internet, but I thought the shipping was a little high compared to other companies I have ordered from. In each department they have a per shipment rate then added to that is a cost per item or pound. I ordered from the dining department, so the per shipment charge was $4.99 and added to that was $0.59 per pound. I do not remember what the total weight or shipping charge was, but with stemware I am sure it was a nice chunk of change. But my order arrived on time, packaged well and undamaged.
I did not need to speak with customer service on this order, but my experience with Target's customer service has not been good. When I had problems with the baker's rack, I had spoke to numerous customer service representatives, most of them being incredibly rude. I had spent almost three hours on the phone and waiting for return phone calls to not have the problem solved nor did they offer anything, not even an apology, for the hassle I went through.
Overall, I would recommend Target.com. I will use them again, especially after our wedding to purchase any items left on our registry. I just hope to not have any more problems with their merchandise to have to go through such an ordeal with customer service.
