Birthday Parties - should you hire a clown or other performer?

Plan your party carefully. Only hire performers you've seen before. And try to have fun!

GREAT ADVICE... (Reply to this comment)

...and I'm still laughing. This page is definitely going to every friend of mine with young children!

Good for you, by the way, for not spending your retirement fund on your four-year-old's birthday party. I've always thought those elaborate, money-out-the-er...ears parties had a LOT more to do with grown-ups playing one-upmanship and a lot less to do with the kinds of activities kids really enjoy.

Sounds like your four year old's party was both fun and frugal.

I mean, isn't it enough I entertain you with a clown and stuff your face with pizza and cake...you want a goody bag too! Crimoney!

We just went to a birthday party last weekend and the give aways were one balloon and a HUGE pixy stick! How cool was that. My son thought it was the cat's meow!

Ahhh Birthday Parties! LOL (Reply to this comment)

We have five children and have always gone on the every other year cycle for each child's party. That way, I am not spending every month planning! LOL

My children are given a budget, and then allowed to plan whatever they want within that amount. They have come up with wonderful ideas and have enjoyed planning what THEY want to do. My five year old wants a "tea party" where they all "make" their dresses and hats before eating. We have stocked up on the supplies (we also have two trunks full of "dress-up" clothes) and I am sure we will have wonderful Polaroid photos to give each child in their beautiful creations!

Her brother wanted to "fish" so we took 6 (they can invite how many kids as they are old) boys to the local "stocked pond" for the day. They had a blast! We could barely get the to stop long enough to eat!

It is not that we couldn't throw a huge party for them every year but I have seen too many over tired, cranky kids come out of the all day affairs. And they too, go to many elaborate parties -- just last Saturday one with over 30 kids, catered with 5 different entertainers! But you know what, they are usually most excited about the goody bags! LOL
