Opinion Summary
I found a rare treasure at DooWop.com!
by knotheadusc | Sep 07 '05
I'm a big music buff and I love to sing. That makes me a natural karaoke enthusiast. Karaoke is the loose translation of the Japanese word for empty orchestra. Would be American Idols sing to pre-recorded music as the words flash across a television ...

This is too funny! No, I'm nobody's mom (except to my two doggies) and I'm also nobody's employee! I'm just a lowly karaoke enthusiast and Army wife! I'm doing my best to assimilate frankfart into Epinions culture, though. We need more karaoke buffs around here!

Resistance is futile, you know. ;)

Nope - we all know Jenny pretty well on Epinions. We would know if she worked for you (she would be crowing about her employee discounts for one thing) and I'm pretty sure she's not your mom :)

She's just a brilliant, insightful chick, and a fabulous writer.

And we like Bill (her supportive hubby) too.

great review (Reply to this comment)

Ok I was sooooo wrong.

This review was not written by one of our employies or my mom,

I looked up the author's web site and it is a real customer. I guess I am not used to reading such well written (ok and insightful) writing.

Ok I was also doubtful about this Santa guy as a child :-)

Again your article has helped me feel that my last 11 years work was not a waste. Believe me I appreciate your glowing article.

amazingly accurate and insightful review (Reply to this comment)

I am the owner of www.doowop.com and I have to say that this review is amazingly accurate and insightful . Let me say that this guy is 100% right on the button with our strengths and also limitations.

We started the site in 1995 about two months after karaoke.com started theirs. If I would have heard about the internet a few months before, my site would be called karaoke.com and Lazaratti's sight would be called something else. We would be selling two million a year and they would have to put up with the lowly mil that we get. What's in a name ? Yea right.

Doowop.com actually dose ship every order the day we get it and we do indeed use the us mail.

We really don't charge shipping in the 50 states.

We don't have an 800 number and ask customers to email us about problems.

We actually have 127,000 discs in stock (we just did inventory)

Oddly enough (not mentioned in the review) we are the only karaoke site that will take anything back within 30 days (played or not played)

If you are not happy we are not happy.

We are one of the only sites to have Pioneer.

We do have most of the discontinued Sound Choice discs. Used

Where as we think that we are better than Karaoke.com I have it on great authority that they think they are better than us. They really do have a nicer sight but then they are using the extra $6 an order to pay for same. And yes I do get a LOT of customers that will use their fancy site with sound bites, reviews and 800 number to make a decision and then buy the actual disc from us. Unfair? Well yes.

One other nice site to look at to get serious insight into the karaoke world is www.karaokex.com . It lists all of the sites found on google under the search word "karaoke" and compares shipping costs, return policies etc.

Now to the honesty of the review.

I really don't know who the customer is that wrote the review but It bothers me that they are SO insightful (well and articulate) They have a much better understanding of our business than any of the customers that I talk to on a regular basis. I am guessing that although the review is 100% totally correct, that it may have been written by a well meaning employee or perhaps my mom. (Ok that is a joke as my mom is 81 and knows nothing about the web site or her computer :-)

Again thanks for the wonderful article !!! (Danny or Chris or Rachel , Rob , Mom or Chad ) Ok or either Tony or Geoff

If we didn't live on a military installation with restricted access, I'd say that would be a good time in the making! I'd love to have a karaoke party!

Every girl should be as lucky as I am to have such fun toys... both the mechanical and human kinds!

If you must know, the songs were "New Fool" by Alison Krauss and "O Mexico" by Trisha Yearwood. "New Fool" was just re-released on a brand new CDG that just came out on September 1st. "O Mexico" remains a rarity!

we should have a meet and greet at your house, then we can all play with your toy. (The karaoke machine, not Bill.)
