It's nice to talk to someone who really knows a lot about computers. Everything you said was entirely correct. I was trying not to get too too detailed and confuse people but instead give them some basic ranges and advice. I was addressing the less advanced user. Any way thank you very much for your comment and I'm glad you pointed those things out for some of the more advanced computer users who may have experienced similar miscommunications.

Good article overall! Just a few comments:
"I recommend that you get at least a 1.6 GHz chip if you are looking for a computer in the $1500-$2000 range."
I would hesitate to say the CPU MUST be at least 1.6 ghz, simply because that excludes AMD Athlons which are far cheaper AND far more powerful than Pentium 4's (the only CPU's 1.6 ghz or greater) at equal mhz ratings. In fact from most reviews I've read, the 1.4 ghz Athlon even compares on par with the 1.8 ghz Pentium 4 in most tests, despite being about 1/3 the cost.
Also, since P4's will soon be going to an entirely new motherboard format soon, the upgrade options for current Pentium 4 motherboards will be somewhat limited in the future.
"It is unlikely that you will need more than 60 GB unless you are doing professional movie editing or have many DVDs and hundreds or thousands MP3s stored on your computer."
I'm curious why you suggest more space if you have DVD's? Are you referring to ripping DVD's into DIVX format on your hard drive? As it is, it sounds as though you have to INSTALL DVD's onto your hard drive, which simply isn't the case.
"Another good thing to get is a network card. This enables you to connect all your computers and if you have a cable modem or DSL then all of the computers have access to that speed."
Not quite--for sharing high speed internet access among multiple PC's, not only do they all need network cards but you'll also need a router. Not a big deal, but it does add $50-100 in cost and require some additional configuration.
Good article,
