Chocolate Rose Buds, Come Here and Give Me a Kiss!

Aug 08 '01

The Bottom Line A great craft that is easy and fun, an inexpensive gift children can make for parents and grandparents on their special days.

What's better than a rose you can smell? A rose you can eat!! This craft idea is not only easy, it's tasty as well.
I call them chocolate rosebuds, and they are as much fun to make as to look at and eat. The person that receives these little buds will have a hard time deciding if they want to eat them or keep them forever.

Supply List:

A bag of Hershey's Kisses, chocolate or hugs, whichever flavor you prefer.

Several pieces of colored plastic in various shades of pink, red, yellow, purple, and orange. Colored saran wrap will work, or you can buy the kind of plastic that you make stained glass pictures with.

Several leaves and stems from the craft or flower department. The fabric leaves work the best.

Green tape that you use when fixing fake flower arrangements.

All of these supplies can be purchased at any craft, or hobby store. Many other stores like Walmart and K-Mart will carry these items as well.

For a very small amount of money, usually less than $10.00, you will have a sweet treat indeed. Of course this price will vary according to how many roses you plan to make. You will have one rose for every two kisses. I usually only put one leaf on each of my buds.

How do you assemble the rosebuds?

1. Cut several pieces of colored paper into squares that measure approximately 3" X 3".

2. Take two kisses, remove the little white piece of paper, and hold the flat ends of the kisses together.

3. Place the kisses on the colored plastic and wrap them, with the open end of the plastic piece down.

4. Secure the open end of the plastic to a leaf and a stem with the green tape.

And there, after approximately 5 minutes or less you have a quick, easy rosebud. What a delightful and edible treat. My children love to make these, and always receive high praise for their creativity.

If you like really colorful rosebuds you can combine more than one color of plastic over the kiss. Also by combining several different color rosebuds into one bouquet you will have a very appealing eye catching gift. No one will ever dream that it was as simple to make as it is.

Although this is a very simple craft you can make them quite fancy. By using a fancier plastic, like a shimmer color change, a gold or silver you can dress these up for special occasions as well.

A simple center piece or small place settings can be made up for wedding receptions, engagement showers, or even anniversary celebrations.

For baby showers you can purchase the plastic sheets in pinks and blues as well.

These little rosebuds can be made up for a variety of occasions, use your imagination go wild. Above all, have fun.

If you have trouble finding the colored plastic in the craft area of a store look in the section where the wrapping paper is kept. Tissue paper works just as well, and some tissue paper is now being made with plastic instead of tissue.
