The local AM talk show here recently had an interview with the author of this one:

It will be archived for some time for future readers here that might see this link and be interested.

I think many will find it an interesting supplement to your review. As I hope you do.

Very nicely done.

Kiss and tell: the Great White Journalist (Reply to this comment)
by sharksaver
This book starts out with an interesting historical account of the Farrallone Islands and transitions into the local denzens, including the great white shark. The story soon spins into the authors personal obcession to see not just the great white shark, but the great -great white sharks that agrregarte at the islands known as "The Sister." A good metaphor for the approach to Casey's story. What starts as interesting,- if somwehat cast in the Outside Magazine patois - journalism, turns into fantasy and self indulgence. She paints a harrowing tale of a borrowd yacht anchored in a gale which she is confined to because she does not have the permission to land on the island. But she does, And the yacht blows away from sight and so does the job of one of the local biologists who helped her.
But like any carreer driven journailst, never let the fate of others or the truth get in the way of your story. Our heroine must first survive the pitfalls thrown before her, and she demonstrates her strength at the cost of a broken nail and dirty hair. The story spirals down to self pity and arcane musiings.
"I still havent seen one of the sisters!" she whines over wine.
Like the good Marshal that always gets his man, she sees her sharks, writes the story and the job of another biologist, and the 14 year old shark research project gets terminated. A little is said about the status of these magnificent and endangered animals, but nothing about what she, or the reader can do about conservation. Certainly not one more best sellling novel or sequel film is going to protect the Great White Shark.

Ahh, okay. I'd just wondered if the links to your current reading would be more readily seen on your profile page, especially since you'd be able to edit them more easily from there than you would in individual reviews. It's a neat idea, letting other people know what you're reading at the time, I just thought it might cause some confusion when attached to a specific review.

And I wrote this book down on my To Read list, so the next time I'm at the library I'll remember to look for it. :)

I had linked other great books that were better than I had expected, but I think you're right - it was overkill. I left the similar books, plus my other two 'summer reading' books.

I would highly recommend picking this one up, though.

And it definitely sounds like a book that would interest me. I don't get to watch much documentaries anymore now that we don't have cable, and I've always loved the subject of sharks. :)

Er, I really hope you don't take this the wrong way, but... I'm kind of curious about what's up with the mad linkage at the end of the review...? I can see how some of the books are on a similar topic, but I'm a little confused about the rest.
