Wireless Internet..The way of the futureAug 09 '01 Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line Wireless Internet is the way of the future, but it is still relatively new. Optimal conditions need not apply As the thirst for high speed internet connection grows, the word Wireless Internet looms in the air. Most of the internet community has heard of DSL, ISDN, and Cable, but few have heard of Wireless. When the word Wireless is said, most think about cell phones and pagers, but it is so much more. Wireless Internet is using wireless equipment to create and internet connection faster than just about any connection out there. The equipment consists of access units (which transmit the signal), and suscriber units (which recieve the signal, can be an antenna or something similar to a dish). This equipment can allow someone to surf the internet at speeds faster than DSL and Cable. As an added bonus, the equipment and installation is cheaper than DSL and Cable (pending on the venor) The speeds you can look to get are anywhere between 3mb and 11mb. Although Western Multiplex is in the process of manufacturing an access unit that can send out a 1gb signal over 11 miles!! Although these speeds are incredibly fast, they can be slowed down by objects such as walls, dirt, thick trees, etc. LOS (line of site) can play a big part in connection speeds. If the LOS is not good, than your connection speed may not be good as well. Not all is lost though, even through thick trees and walls and connection call still be established. Maybe not as fast as suggested, but plenty fast enough. |
