I called the CA # (800-579-7861, which I thought was the direct line for retentions). After about 5 minutes on hold, the first person started giving me the spiel that I needed SBC long-distance otherwise I would not be able to get the rate. Where upon I asked to talk to retentions. The lady who answered started to tell me that this required a special package called SBC Connections and again I cut her short telling her that several people had received the $14.95 rate without any addons to their existing SBC services, and that Comcast was looking like a fine alternative.
She then asked me to hold while she checked with "the manager". After another 7 mins. on hold I was told that my request was approved, but it would take them 7 more days to process the request (with a 12-month contract), whilst they continue to charge me at the $49.95 rate!.
So is SBC being run by a bunch of former car salespeople??? Or some smart (!) McKinsey consultant defined this 3-step process to pick up some extra revenue - and permanently lose any goodwill SBC might have with its customers? On another note, I was traveling for 2 weeks and when I got back my DSL line has stopped working. I hope having re-signed up with them means they will continue to work to fix it - I have a repair person scheduled to come out within "a 4 hour window" tomorrow (they expect people have nothing better to do than wait for them).
