| redhead1's Full Review: Evenflo Trendsetter Travel System |
During my pregnancy, my in-laws were generous enough to offer us any stroller we wanted, and suggested that a "travel system" might be the smartest purchase. They went to Babies R Us and one of the store workers highly recommended the Evenflo.
Interestingly, I was borrowing a book called "Baby Bargains," which rates different products, and I believe it gave this stroller a D+! It called it a "cheapo stroller" and said any other product was better. Specifically, it recommended the Century Travel System.
We didn't know what to think, so we went to Babies R Us ourselves and wheeled around and assembled the different systems. We also looked at one by Graco. The reasons we chose the Evenflo, even though it received such a low rating, are because it seemed to fit better in the top of a shopping cart, had a five-point harness (which I believe Century didn't), and seemed easy to assemble and dis-assemble.
My baby is now two and a half weeks old, and I have had no other babies or strollers to compare it to. But in this short time I have taken her on trips to my workplace, my husband's office, friend's houses, and a few walks in the neighborhood, so here are my observations thus far ...
First of all, I'm really glad we got a "system" as opposed to a separate car seat. It is very convenient to pop her out of the car and stick the seat in the stoller. Also, since she still sleeps most of the time, I just bring the seat in the house and let her keep napping in it. She has even spent one or two nights sleeping in it. (In our bedroom, not in the car!)
The seat is a little awkward to get out of the car, but I'm not sure if that's because of the seat itself or just the fact that I have to reach over to the center of the back seat, and it would be awkward no matter what.
A lot of people are impressed when they see this stroller. (Some people comment on the stroller before they comment on the baby!) They call it the "Cadillac of strollers" and are impressed with it's sturdiness, the storage, the fact that the car seat attaches to it, and the one-hand handle. Some women with college-age kids were lamenting the fact that there was no such product when they had their babies.
Other reviewers have said that you need two hands to collapse the stroller, but we use only one (although you do need two to open it). I don't know if our model is slightly different, or what. In my opinion, it works pretty easily, at least considering its size.
As others have said, the stoller is very big. It's a little awkward to get in and out of my Saturn SL, although it does work. I imagine that when our baby gets older, we may get an umbrella stroller so that we at least have another option instead of having to drag this huge thing everywhere.
We have not tried to take out the covering and clean it yet, so I can't comment on that.
Perhaps every stroller has this, but another nice feature is the wheel-lock, which is pretty easy to use and very handy. There is also a lock which keeps the wheels from turning, although I'm not sure if I would ever have the need to use it.
All in all, so far I'm really pleased. And, of course, getting it for free was an obvious plus!
