Boring, but economical

Written: Apr 26 '01
Pros:Economical
Cons:Boring
The Bottom Line: I'll probably stay there again.

Last month while visiting my mom in Oklahoma, my sister, my daughter, and I stayed at a Motel 6. I've stayed at Motel 6 before and have usually been pleased with the quality of the rooms.

We paid $35.99/night for a room with two double beds. The room we stayed in had recently been refurbished, so it was relatively clean. The 19" TV was adequate for the size of the room; anything bigger and you wouldn't have been able to see all of the screen from the beds which were only about two feet away from the TV. One plus was that the TV did have HBO as well as local channels.

Local calls from the room were free, which has become pretty rare at most hotels and motels. Because it was mid-winter, the outdoor pool was closed and there was no playground or any other entertainment for children. While the TV did have HBO, it didn't have any children's channels like Nickelodeon or Disney. A lot of families stay at Motel 6 because of the low price, so I think they could at least have some TV that a kid could enjoy.

We were there two nights so housekeeping did visit once. They left clean towels and made up the beds, but did not replace the one slim bar of soap that had been in the room when we arrived. Maybe if we'd thrown the soap away we'd have gotten a new bar, but then again maybe not. A sliver of soap is better than no soap at all.

While Motel 6 is not the most exciting place you can stay, it is a good value for the price.

-------------- A Funny Thing ---------------
I'm always a little wary of the other customers at motels so I try to be on the alert when going from the parking lot to the room. I pointed out two vehicles to my sister that had no license tags on the front of the car. She laughed and reminded me that in Oklahoma they only have to have a tag on the back of the vehicle.
