Note to readers: This service is set up by Epinions to review in this manner. I will manually add the pros and cons.
Pros: Great price, outstanding customer service.
Cons: Not a one.
They did a great job working with me on my order.
I was looking for a second microphone for my Samson Airline True Diversity Wireless Wind Instrument Microphone System. The system provides a wireless microphone which I attach to my saxophone bell (soprano or tenor), that transmits to a receiver which is them patched to the mixer using a mike cord.
I was already wireless on my tenor and I wanted to go wireless on my soprano as well, because I enjoy moving around the stage, instead of being chained to a mike stand. Switching the mike from the tenor to the soprano as needed was not feasible, as the sound person would have to adjust the balance every time I switched.
The system manufacturer (Samson) said that I could get a second mike with the same channel so that it would work on my existing receiver, as long as only one mike was on at any one time. the Samson rep told me that it was in stock and would cost $569 unless i went through one of their dealers.
I did a net search among vendors who sold the entire system and called vendors to get a price quote. Activemeusican.com and musiciansbuy.com were both willing to sell me the mike.
Activemusician.com answered the phone with a live person, who transferred me to another person who new about wireless microphone systems. He quoted a price of $369.99, confirmed the channel I needed, since there are 6 different channels and the mike had to match, and said that it would arrive in less than a week. Musiciansbuy.com quoted $379 without a delivery promise. Their rep seemed not as knowledgeable about the channels although he was willing to specify a particular channel on his order to Samson. I think the real difference was that the activemusician folks likely CALLED Samson and confirmed that the mike I wanted with the correct channel was in stock.
The person from activemusician.com asked me to order and pay for the item through the web site and indicate the desired channel in the comments section. The site functioned well. it was easily navigable, had the item I wanted, and the order was completed quickly online, including the credit card charge.
The timing was important because I had a big outdoor gig coming up about a week and a half after my order. The correct microphone arrived in less than a week and worked great on stage. Being fully wireless is great. Gigs are even more fun. I wish I'd done this years ago.
Here is a list of some of the mikes I used this summer, including the wireless mikes:
Audio Technica wireless mike
AKG C1000s Twin Pack Microphones
Audix D4 mike
AMT Roam 1 wireless mike
Thanks for reading. God bless!
