HomeComputers & InternetPC LaptopsWhat Should I Know About Dell Notebooks in General?

Build Time

Aug 11 '01

The Bottom Line Be patient. It will be there before you know it.

I searched and searched for info on how long it truly takes for Dell to build a laptop, but couldn't find any data. My order confirmation stated it could take up to 2.5 weeks for my notebook to ship. I thought that was an exaggerated amount of time and wanted to know for sure. I finally contacted Dell directly for the info and they said it takes about 4 days to manufacture a notebook. There are several steps total that your machine will go through.
Step 1 - Order Confirmation - Less than a day (When they confirm your billing information and send your order through
Step 2 - Pre-Production - Time Varies (They make sure all of the parts are in stock to build your machine. The parts may be in and they proceed that day or it make take a couple of weeks.)
Step 3 - Production - 4 days (When your machine is actually put together. There are 4 steps during production, each of which take a day.)
Step 4 - Ship Prep - 1 day (They prepare and box your machine for shipment)
Step 5 - Shipped (It is on its way. YEAH!!)
I hope this info helps others out there who are anxious to receive their new equipment and want more of an idea on the amount of time it takes.
