| lllopez's Full Review: Clorox Clean-Up |
I am a long fan of a product that until recently have taken for granted. If fact Clorox Cleanup was in my pantry years ago when it first appeared on the market and yet I never thought to share my Epinion on it. It seems strange that such that it would never occur to me that such a go to product in my home would be treated like the quintessential red headed Stepchild, if you will. The fact of the matter is, I love red heads and Clorox Cleanup
as well.
What It Is
Clorox Cleanup comes from cleaning royalty, a namesake, a household legend and veritable staple traversing all socio-economic and cultural boundaries wherever it is available. Yes, Clorox is an old friend and has been in our family as long as I can remember. It is no wonder that any product related to this old friend would gain a hearty endorsement and real benefit of the doubt out of the chute. The fact is, Clorox Cleanup is worthy of its namesake.
While a bleach product, it is primarily a cleaner with bleach in it, making it appropriate for use on most bathroom and kitchen surfaces including counters, sinks, grout, tile, vinyl curtains, shower doors, no-wax floors and an effective disinfectant for every surface that germs can linger. In fact the manufacturer claims it is 99.9% effective killing most common forms of bacteria.
The active ingredients include Sodium Hydrochlorite, which are concentrated 1-5%, and Sodium Hydroxide which is concentrated .5 2% neither of which is on the IARC, OSSHA or NTP carcinogen list , with only Sodium hydroxide a concern for exposure limits to the user. What this all means is Clorox Cleanup is safe to use in the home as long as you take precautions, suing rubber gloves and exercising care to keep this product from splashing into your eyes, clothing , prolonged exposure on your skin and the obvious ingestion cautions. In fact the Material Safety data sheet on Clorox Cleanup suggests you drink a glass of water if you ingest this product. With a flashpoint of 200ºf it is generally a stable non flammable product.
How Effective Is It?
The fact is Clorox Cleanup is one of the most effective cleaner/disinfectants I have used. With extended use in my home and business, I have literally used it in bathrooms, kitchens, I use it to sanitize switch plates, computer keyboards, baseball bats, toys ( though a thorough rinsing afterwards is recommended) keys, refrigerator handles and a host of other uses. Think infection; yes anyplace that a cold germ can latch onto is fair game for Clorox Cleanup. My cleaning staff at the office uses cases of it each year and not only are our offices fresh smelling, we have noticed a marginal drop in absenteeism due to colds etc. In fact many of our staff appreciates the benefits of
Clorox Cleanup, they too have taken it into their homes as well.
I have taken the recommended mixture of one cup per gallon of water to clean my garage floors and they are pristine. Yes folks Clorox Cleanup this is one really good product!
In Summary
Clorox Cleanup is a home run. Not only is it a relatively safe product to have in your home, you can be assured that any leftover residue on your surfaces is safe, here again I always rinse, and there are no know carcinogens in this fine Clorox product. As any cleaning product there are always some drawbacks. If you have a history of heart or breathing problems, this is one should likely stay away from. When using Clorox Cleanup , a little goes a long way. I generally like to use small amounts and increase my application as needed. I have seen some folks just squirt away and soon you are overcome by the fumes of this cleaner. Practice a little common sense folks when using any product with bleach, and never mix bleach products with other cleaners especially ammonia. Clorox Cleanup is sufficient to take care of most tasks if used judiciously.
The scent it leaves behind is pleasant and smells clean. Toilet bowls shine like never before, countertops are clean and you can use Clorox as a defense against germs that find their way into your home. This is a versatile product that no home should be without either in the 128 oz dilatable form or handy 32 oz ready to use pump spray. I love this Son of Bleach!
