The Bottom Line: I recommend this for the average family looking for a stylish sporty looking car, with good overall economy and reliability. Better engine performance would give this an excellent rating.
I purchased a 2004 Stratus R/T (dealer demo) in mid 2005.
This model comes with the 2.7L 200HP V-6.
The styling is appealing; it looks much more expensive than it really is. The R/T's 17" tires hold the corners well; I have taken some sweeping turns well over the posted speed limit with no concern about the car loosing grip.
Economy is good, averaging 24-26 MPG combined city highway. Would probably get better mileage, but my commute is only 14 miles each way.
On the down side, I doubt the V-6 makes 200HP. I owned a new 1994 Intrepid ES with a 214HP rating and it had substantially more performance than the Stratus R/T. As a matter of fact, Dodge should be embarrassed to use the R/T badge on this car. It has less performance than my 1997 125HP V-6 Dodge Dakota had, and it was a real slug.
The Stratus R/T also has more than it's share of road noise from the tires.
I like the Autostick trans and find that I get better mileage tooling around town when using it. In the automatic mode, the torque converter doesn't lock up until around 35 MPH, on fairly flat roads I will manually shift into 4th gear at 30 MPH and drop the engine speed a couple hundred RPM.
