THE TOP TEN ACTION MOVIES OF ALL TIME!!

Aug 14 '01

The Bottom Line Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, The Matrix, Gladiator, Terminator, Die Hard, Apollo 13, Rush Hour, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Braveheart, and Eraser.!

There are so many Action/Adventure classics out there that it was really hard to compile this list of my top ten favorites of all time. Some may consider some of these movies falling under a different category (i.e. Braveheart which if you asked some they would say it would fall under the drama category), but here they are my top ten-action/adventure movies of all time. Enjoy!

1. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
(2000)
This action classic is one of the best (if not the best) action/adventure movies of all time. Even though this one does have sub-titles, it’s such an excellent movie you forget you are reading sub-titles and get losed in this movie’s superior action scenes with people swinging from roof top to roof top and tree to tree and the great story line. Winner of four Academy Awards, this is definitely one of the best films of 2000. It stars Chow Yun Fat, Michelle Yeoh, and Zhang Zi Yi. Ang Lee does a superb job directing this film. If you haven’t seen this one yet, see it! You won’t regret it.

2. The Matrix
(1999)
This futuristic action movie is one of the best of all time! The idea that this movie suggests is that the world is run by machines. Humans are grown in huge fields. The machines then use the humans to feed off of for their energy needs. This movie takes the classic story line of an “average nobody” that turns into the “world’s savior”. Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne star in this action classic. This is another one of those that if you haven’t seen yet, see it!

3. Gladiater
(2000)
The fight scenes, graphics, and acting in this movie are all amazing. The story follows a Gladiator named Maximus Cubrinikus’ tale. It starts off when Maximus is in the army in Ancient Roman times. Rome is going to hell and when the Emperor dies, he leaves it to Maximus. The Emperor’s jealous son orders Maximus to be killed. Maximus escapes the soldiers that have been ordered to kill him and gets captured as a Gladiator. He is one of the best Gladiators Rome has ever seen. Maximus gets the crowd on his side and starts to turn them against the evil Emperor. I’m not going to tell you anymore about the story line because I don’t want to ruin this classic for you. This is another one of those action/adventure must sees if you haven’t already!

4. Terminater
(1984)
This is definitely one of the action/adventure classics. This film has to be the most influential action/adventure films of our time. Every action/adventure lover has at least heard of this film. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Biehn, Ah-nuld, and Linda Hamilton. All of these actors were excellent in this film. No wonder it threw every one for a loop. Although it looks low budget (especially compared to the sequel) this one is one of the classics. If you haven’t seen it yet, see it! You have no idea what you are missing!

5. Die Hard
(1988)
Now, what’s a top ten action/adventure films list without the famous Die Hard: one of the best action films of all time! This is the classic American Action Film. If some one were to ask me to show them an action classic, this would be it. This is a story of a New York City Cop that is on the way to see his wife. Little does he know that his wife’s building has been occupied by a terrorist group holding his wife hostage. He comes to his wife’s rescue, however. There is never a dull moment in this film. There’s something happening every second. This one will leave you on the edge of your seat. It stars Bruce Willis as John Mcclane (the New York cop) and the ever-entertaining Alan Rickman (the head thief). This one of the most (if not the most) influential action/adventure film in the last 20 years. If you haven’t seen this one yet, you’re really missing out!

6. Apollo 13
Apollo 13 is one of the most action packed space movies of all time. It’s based on the true story of Apollo 13. These astronauts face one problem after another. This one really keeps you on the edge of your seat. This one stars Tom Hanks and Leonardo Treviglio. One thing that I love about Tom Hanks is that he can act any part (Forest Gump, Saving Private Ryan). Ron Howard does an excellent job directing this one. If you haven’t seen it yet, go and see it!

7. Rush Hour
(1997)
The thing I love about Rush Hour is the way Jackie Chan, Chris Rock, and director Brett Ratner do an excellent job of bringing comedy and action together. Tucker and Rock are hilarious together. The basic story line of this one is a LA Cop (Tucker) who is called in by the FBI to be a “baby sitter” for a Hong Kong detective who is in town to help out with the investigation into the disappearance of a little girl. Part of what makes this film funnier than the wrest is the culture clash that Tucker and Chan’s characters experience. The stunts in this movie are amazing! If you are a fan of action and comedy, this is a must see!

8. Raiders of the Lost Ark
(1981)
This is Harrison Ford at his best. It’s non-stop action from beginning to end. This will entertain both kids and adults. If you haven’t seen it already, see it! You won’t regret it!

9. Braveheart
(1996)
Mel Gibsen did a superb job acting and directing this movie! He outdid himself! This is definitely Mel at his best! The story revolves around the Scottish hero William Wallace (Gibsen) who returns home after the death of his Scottish King to find that his homeland and the freedom of his people are being threatened by the English King Edward the Longshanks (Patrick McGoohan). Wallace must defend his home land and it’s people from this evil king. There is not one dull moment in this film! If you haven’t seen this Action/Adventure film yet, see it. An Academy Award Winner, this one is definitely one of those classics!

10. Eraser
(1996)
In this action packed movie Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as John Krugar who is a U.S. Marshall whose job is to “erase” people’s identities that are entering into the witness protection program. His job this time is to protect a executive (Venessa Williams) who’s discovered something that could put power in the hands of the enemy. Schwarzeneggar does it all in this film: jump from a plane after the paratute, wrestling alligators. This one is non-stop action. If you’re an action fan, this is a must see!

There you have it, my top ten. They don’t even begin to give action/adventure films justice because there are so many of them, but hay I tried.
