"It's My Opinion, I can Say What I Want To!"Aug 15 '01 Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line Are you scared? I am. I may not be a movie advisor, and this list that I am creating may not agree with all of you very deserving movie advisors, but it is my opinion, and I can say what I want to. I think, in my mind, that these were some of the most frightening films that I have seen. I know some of them don't have very good overall ratings, but I believe a horror movie must be scary. I think all of these are scary. Please enjoy reading this opinion. The Movies, Starting With The Best Child's Play 1 Director: Tom Holland Date: 1988 Rating: R Actors and Actresses: 1. Catherine Hicks as Karen Barclay 2. Chris Sarandon as Mike Norris 3. Alex Vincent as Andy Barclay 4. Brad Douriff as Charles Lee Ray 5. Dinah Manoff as Maggie Peterson 6. Tommy Swerdlow as Jack Santos Something about my sisters dolls have always scared the living daylights out of me. It must be the fact that when I walk by, it is as if they are staring at my every move. The main reason for this phenomena is probably the fact that I saw this movie. It starts out with Charles Lee Ray, a convicted strangler, being shot at a toy shop and being left for dead. He had had some background with voodoo so he muttered an incantation and a big explosion occurred. Meanwhile at the Barclay's House: Young Andy Barclay saw a t.v. advertisement for a chucky doll. He wants this talking doll but his mother, Karen Barclay, can't afford the $100.00 cost. She then buys her son a cheaper doll from a peddler. Hmmmm. wonder who this can be. Non-other than Charles Lee Ray himself! The doll becomes friends with the boy and gets him to do everything he is told. These aren't bad things though. Chucky stays quiet around adults though. When the babysitter gets a little nosey, Chucky plants a claw-hammer in between her eyes. Who will suspect a doll? Much more action happens in my favorite horror film and I think just about everyone's seen it. For those that haven't, it's worth it. Jaws Director: Steven Spielberg Date: 1975 Rating: PG-13 Actors and Actresses: Murray Hamilton as Mayor Vaughn Roy scheider as Brody Richard Dreyfuss as Hooper Robert Shaw as Quint Favorite Line: "Your going to need a bigger boat." This is perhaps Steven Spielberg's second most renowned film behind none other than Jurassic Park. This movie is classified in most places as an action/adventure film, but to me...It's a horror film! A monster shark appears and townspeople begin to disappear. The Shark Expert Hooper and the town's sheriff Brody along with the shark hunter Quint begin the hunt for this massive master of the deep. Mayor Vaughn, at first, doesn't believe that a shark could be doing the killings, but after bodies begin washing up on shore, he notices he has a bigger problem on hand. A $3000.00 bounty is placed on the shark and the hunt is on. A great action packed film with suspensful scenes. Truly one of Spielberg's greatest works. Blair Witch Project Directors: Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez Date: 1999 Rating: R Actors and Actresses: Heather Donahue as Heather Joshua Leonard as Josh Michael Williams as Mike This is the film that I believe a lot of people will disagree with me on. A bunch of people hated this film, but only a select few liked it. That few includes me. The reason that I liked this film the most is because of the directors. These dudes were geniouses. How do you take $75,000 and turn it into a huge profit. They did! Basically, they said it was based on a true story, which it wasn't. Three young filmmakers journey to Burkitsville to interview the townfolk about the Blair Witch legend and surrounding woods. After gaining this information, they journey into the woods and are never to be seen again. Their cameras were later found and were used to make this film. They show the teens running through the woods from some unknown entity and that is why I am afraid of it. Sometimes noises in the dark are more scary than the concept of what is making them. Any kid can tell you that. Any kid except for the three teens. Sleepy Hollow Director: Tim Burton Date: 2000 Rating: R Actors and Actresses: Johnny Depp as Ichabod Craine Christina Ricci as Katrina Van Tassel Miranda Richardson as Lady Van Tassel Michael Gambon as Baltas Van Tassel Casper Van Dien as Brom Van Brunt This movie was based on Washington Irving's "Legend Of Sleepy Hollow". I have always been scared of this famed "headless horseman" and that is the reason why I have chosen this movie. I thought that it did a great job in telling the story and I also liked the new twists that they added in the plot. This movie is very gory. Ichabod Craine is an investigator who is trying to get to the bottom of a series of murders in Sleepy Hollow. On the job, he meets Katrina Van Tassel. They fall in love. Of course. Craine begins to unearth the very foul legend of this town in the first person point of view. Lake Placid Director: Steve Miner Date: 1999 Rating: P-13 Actors and Actresses: Bridget Fonda as Kelly Scott Bill Pullman as Jack Wells Oliver Platte as Hector Cyr Brendan Gleeson as Sheriff Keough Betty White as Mrs. Bickerman Merideth Salanger as Deputy Sharon Gare Another movie that you may disagree with. I believe that it was well done and lived up to what was expected of it. A Jaws Like Story with a crocodile. How do you get rid of a forty foot crocodile in its home territory? Betty White the glamorous golden girl, made a great appearance and there were many funny remarks to go around. A very good and scary overall movie. The Lost Boys Director: Joel Schumacher Date: 1987 Rating: R Actors and Actresses: Michael: Jason Patric Sam: Corey Haim Lucy: Diane Weist Grandpa: Barnard Hughes Max: Edward Herman David: Kiefer Sutherland Star: Jami Gerz Edgar Frog: Corey Feldmar Alan Frog: Jamison Newlander The Lost Boys are teen vampires that roam around by night and in the lair by day. The new kid moves to town and is converted by these bloodsuckers. That is where his younger brother and a few friends come in. They are out to save him from the beasts of darkness. I loved the film for some reason and vampires have always scared the heck out of me. All of the actors and actresses were great. A good first showing by Schumacher. Deep Blue Sea Director: Renny Harlin Date: 1998 Rating: R Actors and Actresses: Samuel Jackson as Russel Franklin Thomas Jane as Carter Blake Saffron Burrows as Susan McAlester LLCoolJ as Sherman Dudley Michael Rapaport as Tom Scoggins What can I say. Sharks make for a great horror movie. In this movie, human intervention brought along these creatures. The sharks in this movie were created deep in the ocean by a classified project. The sharks were smart sharks and made partly from dolphin and human brain tissue. Everything all of the sudden goes wrong and it is now a fight for their lives to keep the sharks contained. If not, no more swimming in the ocean. Scream Director: Wes Craven Date: 1997 Rating: R Actors and Actresses: Dewey: David Aquette Casey: Drew Barrymore Sidney: Neve Campbell Gale Weathers: Courteney Cox Randy: Jamie Kennedy Stuart: Matthew Lillard A star studded line up makes for a great suspense film that will scare the living daylights out of you. Someone is out to kill Sidney and her friends, but no one knows who. It is a great mystery that will keep you thinking of who dunnit. Nighmare On Elm Street Director: Wes Craven Date: ? Rating: R Actors and Actresses: ? This is a film about a little boy who's mother was in a horror movie and it is all of the sudden coming true. The demonic Freddy Krueger is pestering this little boy in his dreams. Who said dreams aren't real. Freddy is out to harm everyone and boy almighty this is a scary flic. Pumpkinhead Director: ? Date: ? Rating: ? Actors and Actresses: ? As you can see, I don't know much information on this film. What I do know is that I saw this movie when I was way to young and that is why it has always been so frieken scary. It is about a demon that is pestering a town and killing all of the people. The main characters whole role is to somehow kill the beast. You have just read the top ten horror films on my list. They are all very scary and the list took a long time to make. I hope you liked the list and I believe that the movies on it are good enough for even you to watch. Comments Please tell me what you thought about my opinion so I can make it better in the long run. Also, for all of the question marks that I have on the information of this films, if you know what should go in the blank, e-mail me or leave a comment. Thanks, Bballin2413 Jordan Hanson |
