The Bottom Line I still recommend the web site for vacation planning, but suggest that the ratings from past renters not be given much credence in making a decision about renting a property.

My wife and I use Vacationspot.com regularly to reserve vacation property and preview them for future vacations. We have always been satisfied until our most recent experience renting a property on the Oregon coast in March. One feature of the web site we enjoyed reading was what other renters thought about the property. I am sure like many people this often made the difference of whether to rent one property or another. If you have stayed at a property you can make an "on the spot recommendation" about your experience for the website. There are 4 categories that can be rated between 1-10 with 10 being the best. The categories are service, value, attractiveness and overall rating. Overall,we were satisfied with the property visited on the Oregon coast, however, the furnishings in the front room were very soiled and the cushions had lost their resiliency years ago. Therefore we rated service as 10 and the other areas 8 or 9. We commented the property was great with the exception of the front room furnishings which needed to be replaced. We thought our comments were accurate and positive. When our rating was not posted, I contacted Vacationspot.com. They replied that they only post the best comments and never any that have anything negative in them. As a result the rating feature of this site has little value. We will still use the web site but won't consider the ratings in our decision making as we now realize only perfectly positive ratings are posted. If someone sees a vacationspot property without an on the spot recommendation, it doesn't mean that someone hasn't rated the property; only that the rating wasn't "positive" enough.
